I got back into it a few years ago around when 151 came out. Took some lumps here and there but have grown out a 8k sealed collection. Feels a little overwhelming trying to catch restocks and keeping the sealed product in pristine condition while in storage. Had some big pulls recently too team rocket mewtwo (sir) and mega zard (sir) from phantasmal flames.

If you were ever in to poekmon you probably spent time at uncle Rick’s cabin.

Are you the guy who keeps cleaning out the vending machines before children can get any cards?

You should switch to doing cocaine and having sex with hookers.

I've grown some interest in watching some of the "breaks" and openings, but I have no desire to jump in the rat race to try to actually find anything retail or pay the insane prices on the secondary market for packs.
ETA: Not Pokemon, but the Spongebob cards about drew me in a while back. I like them and the 1/1 artist cards and autos are kind of cool. I've been keeping an eye out for them retail, but no luck. The prices on those cards have gone crazy, too.

My son had 3 ring folders filled with these, and he auctioned them off on eBay. Not sure how much he earned, but he used the money to purchase a Japanese crotch rocket.

I fell into the trap late 2020 when the craze first started. It was somewhat nostalgic but I got over it quickly. It was more about opening cards then. Last I saw it had turned into a shite show with losers trying to catch restocks and buying up stuff to resell.
I will say buying booster boxes and keeping them sealed is probably still a good investment. Especially over decades. Other than that you shouldn’t be buying up product to keep sealed unless your a hardcore collector.

You'll get shitted on for posting this on the OT, but people's Pokémon collections are outpacing their stock portfolios in many cases.
I got back into collecting cards (sports and Pokemon) during Covid to have something to do. Opened packs for a while, then just started buying singles. Eventually I lost interest due to scalpers, and just have been sitting on several binders of cool cards.
I am shocked at what certain Pokémon cards are selling for right now. Bulk holos from older sets that I payed like a dollar for, I've sold for 35, 50, 70 dollars each. I picked up 1st Ed. Base Pikachu a couple of years ago for 20 bucks. Market price is currently just shy of $190. Gengar was always my favorite, and the prices on just about all them are insane right now, relative to what they were even 6 months ago in some cases.
I might not be getting rich off of it, but something I did for shits, giggles, and nostalgia during lock down has made me a lot of money relative to what I put into it.

I have an engineering cousin who does it in the side and makes good money. Gave me a tour of his home Pokémon office. “This box is 10k”, “here’s my sold profit of weekly listings”. It’s nice gig but he’s got a 3rd kid coming and probably taking that space. Not sure where all the Pokémon stuff is going.

I collected when Pokémon first came out when I was a kid. Had a bunch even a hologram charizard. Curious what it’d be worth today if I still had it.

Base unlimited Charizard in decent shape is currently at right around $500. I got one in really nice shape about 2 years ago for about $125.
