Just how much of a disaster was hiring Woodward

10 year contract to a 60 year old coach that usually got demolished by SEC competition.
And a 7 year contract for a coach from Murray St? Crazy for a coach from a mid major to get that kinda deal stepping up to the big leagues.
He totally blew the big two sports hires and cost lsu over 60 something million.

He also hired Jay Johnson who won two baseball national championships for us and Kim Mulkey who won us our first women’s basketball national championship.
That’s a hell of a run by itself. He’s far from a disaster of an athletic director.
You spoiled pussies don’t even know what true losing even feels like, and yet you talk shite about LSU’s players and coaches constantly and excessively.

As much as that sucks, he raised a lot more than that and cleaned up the dysfunctional mess that Alleva left behind. He was FAR worse of an AD when it came to fundraising and running the department. We are in much better shape financially now and that’s how we were able to absorb the losses and still make these hires.
Woodward was late to the game in pay for pay NIL and steering the collective. But once he and his staff got to work, they built one of the best situations in the P5. That’s what allowed Kiffin to walk in the door and completely restructure the roster immediately.
Woody fired himself when Kelly fell flat and the way he handled the exit was just going down in flames. But he still left the department in better and more stable shape overall than he found it. Hopefully Verge can take that and make better big decisions than his former boss did. He seems to be off to a great start.

Not great.
And we all bash Alleva, as we should. But all he did was bring us Wade and a football national championship. Yeah he was a clown and O was a terrible hire, but give me him over Woodward.

Woodward wasn't awful. He was essentially forced to fire Wade and the BK hire at the time seemed like a good idea. I don't think anyone could have foreseen him just playing golf everyday and not showing up to the facilities.

The you’re an idiot. He lucked into both because he was a fricking moron, or did you forget “I AM the search!” He was a total fricking shithead clown and no one in college athletics respected him, as evidenced by multiple situations he fricked up going back to watching Duke Lacrosse unfold in front of his weak arse while his university president hung him out to dry. fricking hell.
I’ll take the department being on solid financial footing for the next guy to take it higher for $1,000, Alex.

I think Woodward was pretty dumb with his coach contract negotiations, but if this is about Wade, pretty much every AD would've handled it the same way Woodward did.
I mean, he suspended Wade twice with the hopes that all of this would eventually go away, but the NCAA wanted its pound of flesh and LSU's hands were kinda tied when new reports came out for a third time.

No one forced Woodward to fire Wade. He didn’t want Wade here, wasn’t willing to take the heat, unlike other AD’s, so he fired him.
I hated the Kelly hire from Day 1. It was a lazy hire simply to get a Big name here. It was the exact same blueprint he did at A&M and it ended just as poorly.
And…. Everyone conveniently forgets Woodward wanted Florida’s O’Sullivan as baseball coach. He was Woodwards clear number one target.

And raised so much more than the fricking idiot you’re ready to slum with that we are still in the black and had the money to spend EVEN MORE on replacements.
The man was fired for a reason, but he did the job of raising and making money so much better than his incompetent predecessor that we’re still much better off financially today after that wasted money.
Tell me- is Joe Alleva an AD today? No? I wonder why…..

BK on paper I thought would work but always hated the length.
Now what I thought would happen was BK would be on a war path to get his natty in the first few years and then coast on the back end of his deal…but he gave up way sooner..
The point is, there were more ways for that 10 year deal to go south then there was for it to end well. Scott ignored all of those risks and didn’t seem to think failure was a possibility.
Kelly was not such a slam dunk hire that you had to bend over backwards to get him here.

If you could read that would be great.
They both suck. They’re both not an AD anymore. Woodward lost more for the university. Including investing in a women’s basketball program that loses almost 10 million a year. And he hired two failures. One for 100 million dollars.
Give me Alleva in a slight edge.

how many times did Alleva get played by les Miles and his agent post 2011? Then he fricked up hiring a legit replacement twice, and fell backwards into Orgeron actually working out (temporarily). Joe Alleva also hired Johnny Jones and Trent Johnson before getting lucky with Will Wade, only to sandbag and suspend him when he had the chance. And this doesn't even get into all of his other public blunders that don't have to do with hiring/firing coaches. Alleva was an arrogant clown

The timing was also really unfortunate. NIL went from something programs were just figuring out to running the entire sport in less than 2 years. If we had to make a hire in 2023, Kelly wouldn’t have been the choice. But that’s how it goes.

Possibly the best AD LSU ever had.

It has nothing to do with which hires they fricking made. One left the department an absolute mess and behind in the SEC financially. The other cleaned up that mess quickly and left it better off in spite of the bad hires. Woodward wins by miles here. We were able to bring in Kiffin and the staff he wanted and spend record amounts on NIL for a reason. And now do it again for basketball.

No need to would-da, could-da, should-da. Let's enjoy what's ahead....Kiffin, Johnson, Mulkey, Wade, Clark, etc. and GEAUX everything that is LSU sports.

Woodward sucked and he’s gone and for good reason! This goes beyond wins and losses!
