I'm beginning to think Delane is the best pick. Makes a lot of sense and checks the box.

My personal belief is you only draft one of five positions (QB, WR, OT, DE, and CB)in the top half of the first round unless that player is an instant pro bowler like Brock Bowers, Tyler Warren, and possibky Love. With that being said and Taylor departing, to me Delane is the safest and best pick.
A lot of mock drafts have us taking Tate. I am not a fan of that pick. Running a 4.53 40 and not running again on his pro day to me is a yellow or even red flag. Also, he played opposite the best WR in college over the last two years and always got tier two college CB coverage.
With Downs, I am not sure about that knee. He looks like he could fit the intact probowler but he might be done at elite level in just five years.
Also it is better to get an A- Cornerback, than A+ safety. CB is just more important.
Saints have their immediate future QB, OT, and even DE with the way Young played last year. WR or CB seem to be the pick and I think Delane is just a lot safer than Tate.

Idk. Some hybrid safeties these days are game changers and game wreckers. Playing in the box like a linebacker on speed- wrecking players, and playing deep

Bailey, Reese, Downs, Styles, Love, Tate, Delane, or OL. I’m pretty much okay with any of these guys. I’ll trust that the coaching staff knows what they need and who is the best fit.

Delane would be a fine pick, but I think we should go receiver and disagree about Tate. A 4.53 is not a slow time, and he doesn't look slow on his tape at all so I am really not concerned about it. Here are some other notable wide receiver 40 times:
JSN - 4.52
Puka Nacua - 4.57
Ceedee Lamb - 4.50
AJ Brown - 4.49
Mike Evans - 4.53
Davante Adams - 4.56
Cooper Kupp - 4.62
Amon Ra St. Brown - 4.61
A 4.53 forty is plenty fast enough play receiver in the NFL. Adding a player the caliber of Tate would make this offense a whole lot more dangerous, and would make Shough's life a lot easier.

I’d also like them to take a receiver at 8 and just go defense the rest of the way. Any of Tate, Lemon, or Tyson would be good. Tyson injuries are worrisome but he’s still a good prospect

if Delane is as good as people say, then maybe he is the pick. If he can take away a WR 1, great! But also, I feel like pressure and sacks on the QB are the way to go.
I say you pick someone to play opposite of Young. Either Cam Jordan comes back or he doesn't but he's a rotational player regardless.
Granderson is good but not a game changer.

58.7 that was the best on the team considering targets and snap counts
Taylor was targeted 94 times and a 68.1 pass completed rating.
I think picking Downs is a no brainer if he's there but if not maybe take a DB later on.
Riley's pass completion percentage rating was 59.6.
In fairness I don't know what corners from other teams looked like, but it seems Taylor got picked on the most. And he couldn't tackle.

Here’s the issue when comparing Downs and Delane..
Delane is a pure boundary corner and then you likely move Riley to nickel… how good is he there?
Downs would slide in as that 3rd safety and nickel and replace Alontae.
Also, the staff has proven they can find very good corners in the middle rounds, so you could pass on Delane… take Downs and then find a corner you like in 3rd or 4th

Because just like the rest of Tiger fans…. Downs is the safest pick in the top of this draft class and it’s not close.

His knee makes him a risk.
Love and Reese are the only safe picks.
Delane is safer than Downs. Not because he might be elite, but because he is most likely to be healthy and solid.

I agree with you, although I want a receiver I would prefer Downs over Delane. Downs is going to be a great player

I think we all agree that WR is a need. The issue is that it isn’t the best use of capital to get one at 8. This draft is deep at WR. But, it lacks the ultra elite talent. Olave is probably better than the top 3 prospects. So, using the 8th pick on a 2nd receiver isn’t great value. We can get a WR at 42 and even take a late round flyer on a WR who drops to strengthen the bottom of the WR depth chart.
