The fifth foul on Grace Knox was a crucial play in the game & was wrong, wrong, wrong

One of the biggest plays last night was the fifth foul called on Grace Knox with 3:45 left in the game. The officiating was atrocious and one sided throughout the game. This was one of the most egregious and wrong calls made or not made that favored Duke. This was foul #4 on LSU while Duke had zero for the fourth quarter and only two fouls for the entire second half. On this play a Duke player shot and missed from outside the arc. Grace had inside rebounding position and had clearly and in textbook style blocked off and sealed her spot in the left/ center of the paint. The Duke playerwas literally draped over and lying across Knox who was in a bent forward position. As the missed shot caromed off the goal to her rught Knox pivoted to pursue the rebound. The Duke player then rolled to her left and again draped herself over Grace, this time with her back lying over Grace's back. The Duke player then rolled off and fell to the floor and the foul call was incorrectly assessed to Knox. The announcer even had a tone of incredulity when she said the foul was called on Knox. Had this foul been correctly assessed to the Duke player perhaps the stronger Grace instead of Zakiyah is still in the game and being stronger might have grabbed the rebound on the missed 3 pointer with 3 seconds left instead of the scrum which resulted in the ball going out of bounds and awarded to Duke for the winning shot. The foul call on Knox was made by the black female official who seemed to make every call in favor of Duke all night long.

Wow…I didn’t read any of it, but were you thinking about that all day long?!?

I only had a chance to watch the 2nd half but the refs seemed allergic to giving LSU any “And 1” opportunities while it seemed they gave Duke multiple.

Good assessment of the foul called on Knox!

That's about when I turned it off. I basically realized then that LSU wasn't going to be able to leave the building with a win. Whatever the reason, the basketball gods weren't smiling on LSU, and they were doing themselves no favors, either.

I at least saw her make one or two calls in LSU's favor. Can't remember the guy ref making any calls in our favor. Duke was deserving, but LSU kept getting fouled and bumped on drives to the goal and consistently weren't given the free throw after making the shot.

I remember thinking it was the wrong call during the game and then I rewatcfhed the game and confirmed it was wrong on so many levels. The foul should have been charged to the Duke player to begin with and to have it called on Knox just magnified how bad it was. I encourage you to watch the replay.

The one in particular when Fulwiley was hip checked and the announcer even made mention of the no call.

No wonder Grace gets frustrated, seems to happen to her too much. She’s learned to suck it up and keep playing, she’s grown up so much this year. We will never know if her being in the game would have made a difference but knowing her tenacity I think she would have been in the middle of it and could have grabbed that rebound. Bummer!

And if Duke got breathed on they got the +1 probably got 5+ extra points in the 4th alone.
I wonder what the Duke coach was whispering in Flau’jae’s ear at the end?

If-onlys are useless but if only Knox and Fulwiley were on the court during that last in-bounds.
