Favorite Sweet 16 & Elite 8 Memories

I was thinking today about the 2005 Elite 8. Probably my favorite two day stretch of college basketball that I can remember. Three OT games, including a 15 point comeback with 4 mins left to go and one of the most ridiculous game tying shots you'll ever see.
2005: Illinois vs Arizona
2005: Kentucky vs Michigan St.
2005: Louisville vs. West Virginia
Elite names everywhere for the Elite 8:
Sean May
Rashad McCants
Raymond Felton
Marvin Williams
Alando Tucker
Maurice Ager
Shannon Brown
Luther Head
Dee Brown
Deron Williams
Francisco Garcia
Kevin Pittsnogle
Salim Stoudamire
Channing Frye
Mustafa Shakur
Kelenna Azubuike
Rajon Rondo
Patrick Sparks
Randolph Morris
What a weekend of basketball

I was at that Louisville-WVU game. It was wild.

I’ll second this. I was at the game in Louisville. Still have no idea how we pulled that out.

KU over Zona in the ‘03 elite 8. Great game featuring great seniors. Hinrich and Collison for KU and Gardner and Walton for Zona.
Ohio State vs St. John’s elite 8 in ‘99 was terrific.
IU comeback over Duke in the ‘02 sweet 16.

George Mason making it to final four was pretty cool to see way back when…

For some reason, I never liked Jamie Dixon at Pitt. I thought his teams were overrated. But, he had that one stud superteam and chubby, slow Scottie Reynolds broke they hearts. I kind of feel bad about it now. They were probably the only team that could hang with UNC that year.

Pittsnogle-West Virginia. Have no idea what year it was

86 LSU beating Ga Tech and UK in Atlanta. Still the lowest seed (tied with 4 others) to make the Final Four.

I was doing a WVU baseball game on student radio during that WVU/Louisville game. They were watching it back in the studio and we could hear the reactions in our ear pieces and give updates (like anyone was listening to us). When we were up big it was bedlam in our ears and then it got quiet as the lead slipped away.

This one was awesome. The second 11 seed to make the Final Four.
Oddly enough, I was in the building for VCU and Loyola to advance to the F4. Since then we’ve had a couple more 11 seeds get in.
