The Wire (HBO)- First time watching

The Wire is one of those series that seem to come up whenever guys are talking about top 10 TV series of all time. For a show that first aired in 2002, I feel bad waiting this long to give it a shot. In my defense - I'm not a huge fan of police procedurals, organized crime dramas and I 100% had this series confused with the prison drama "Oz".
I bit the bullet and started it. A week later and I'm halfway through season 2.
Man, it's hard to believe it's over 20 years old. The scenes feel dated, as does the production value at times, but holy shite the writing is great. The acting is supurb, the characters phenomenal.
If someone asks me what makes it so good, the good characters do bad things, the bad characters do good things. They each pull off some brilliant maneuvers, and some bone head ones. As messed up as things get, you begin to realize the problem is the system itself.
Enjoying season 2 so far, I love how the writers layered in the dock workers and greek mob to the story. I really can't say enough good things so far.

I just watched the part in Season 2 where they're in prison and a bunch of people die because of rat poison laced in the dope.
Curious to see how Avon and Dee play out.

Still my all-time favorite series. I just finished my 4th rewatch about 2 weeks ago and I'm still picking up new stuff.

You want it to be one way. It’s the other way.

The Wire was my first exposure to Idris Elba. Blew my mind when I found out he was British. He is also the owner of the coolest name in TV and Movie history. Stringer Bell and Stacker Pentecost.

I also remember watching GoT and the first time Littlefinger showed up I yelled that’s that douche bag from The Wire, guarantee he’s an a-hole in this also. I was right

Just today I saw a guy slumming near the local Walmart who I had to double take wasn’t Bubbles himself.

Great series. Good watch. My son and I watched it over the Covid break and was like 3-4 shows a night and in the day a few more.

Same, but if you go back and rewatch it now you can hear the British slip in from time to time

I also started the show recently for the first time and I'm about the same place you are. So far I like it a lot. I got to season 2 and I'm like hey that's Holly from the office.

When you understand the story of Snot Boogie you understand life.
Got to, this is America man.

Hell yeah. One one the greatest openings to a show of all time.

Favorite line in the show IMO. Thanks for stating the obvious, Slim Charles.

Well, that went a lot quicker than I expected.
