Trump 'present' from Iran was safe tanker passage through Hormuz

Just confirmed in Trump's press conference.
The Iran negotiating team (the one many claimed not to even exist) guaranteed safe passage of 8 Pakistani-flagged oil tankers through the strait. The move is seen by US negotiators as assurance they are dealing with parties who are powerful enough in Iran's shattered leadership to be capable of ensuring Iranian compliance.

The “present” US President Donald Trump said Iran had given Washington was allowing several fuel tankers to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz, The Times of Israel reported, citing a senior Arab diplomat and a US official.
Trump said on Tuesday that Iran had given the United States a “present” worth a “tremendous amount of money,” without providing details, but described it as related to oil and gas and the strategic waterway.
The report cited an unnamed US official as saying that when Washington began passing along messages to Iran through mediators over the weekend in order to test whether a diplomatic off-ramp to the war was possible, it asked Tehran to make a gesture of goodwill.
In response, Iran agreed to allow a number of fuel tankers that weren't tied to the US or Israel through the Strait of Hormuz in order to help calm global markets, the report added citing an an unnamed Arab official.

Yep. Iran showed that they have someone in charge that can allow passage through the Strait.
Don’t know what it means in terms of US approach. Do we abandon regime change and keep that person around?

Can’t be true! The never Trump tards on this board told me he wasn’t negotiating with anyone! OMB!

My president told me that Iran's leadership was begging to negotiate.
In reality, they hold all the cards with the SofH, and have no desire to negotiate.

Regime change is the only way.
As safe passage was happening this happened:

Iran’s foreign minister Araghchi said in an interview broadcast on state television on Wednesday that no talks were being held with the US and that Iran would attack US interests wherever it saw them, state TV reported.

So they let 8 tankers from a country that houses no US forces through the staight? Not sure how this is a present, it seems more like a show of control.

Iran had mines but minesweepers were said to clean it up.
Iran has no Navy so Trump may be allowing Iran and Baghdad Bob to save face in negotiations?

Just the truth my friend. There is no real evidence otherwise.

They should just give him some gold-plated "Mullah for life" trophy like everyone else has done... plenty of folks from FIFA to Amazon to Mamdani know how to get in Trump's head. He likes shiny gold things that make him feel special.

Maybe we keep that person in the loop, but anything other than regime change just means we continue to have to bomb the crap out of Iran every few years when they rebuild and rebuild again.
We're pretty deeply committed at this point and need to do everything possible to get the Iranian people to arm up and topple the regime.

Hahaha you’re saying the “truth” is Iran holds all the cards?!?!? Seek help!

I would like to have those ten tankers "pointed out" and be able to follow them on a map to the USA. Not that I don't believe it, but it would give me some satisfaction.

Depends on who they are. What they were in the regime. What they can/will be moving forward.
What we know right now is
1) they have enough power to make decisions
2) they aren’t so bad that we’ve already sent them to hang out with virgins yet. But we can at any time.
We’ve made pretty clear how we choose who is not worth dealing with right from the jump.
PS. Regime change in and of itself was never an objective. Just one created by people who want “failure” by the US

If we had any leverage, oil prices would be easing and the stock market would not be slumping. Trump is clearly desperate for this, as he’s eased sanctions on Iran and Russia, and released some of our reserves. But it’s not working, because Iran has realized that the SofH is their upper hand. You believe what you want friend.
