Do you ever wonder just how propagandized you are?

The truth is objective, but man, I’m starting to feel like none of us have any idea what’s actually going on in the world.
It’s unsettling.
It’s unsettling.

Media, the enemy of the people.

It’s why it’s so ridiculous the people who pound the table, stating that they know for a fact that Israel this or Trump that. Nobody really knows all the ins and outs and the folks claiming so while also refusing to change their minds are clowns.

The real truth will never be something you'll see on the television news.

I often wonder what all historical "facts" we learned growing up, or famous points in our nation's history were absolute bullshite bc no one was online to research the validity of it. No cell phone cameras were around to capture everything.

They’re trying their best to control our perspective of the world. Don’t let them.

Well, none of us have anywhere close to full knowledge regarding every dynamic that exists in the world. I think I have at least a basic idea regarding many of those dynamics. I feel like I would be very accurate regarding the good guy/bad guy dynamic.

I think that feeling is actually a sign you’re paying attention. Most people either assume they’re not propagandized OR assume everything is propaganda. The uncomfortable middle is realizing that you’re influenced, but not helpless.

That’s literally why I watch Fox and Friends, The Five, and Dan Bongino. I fully trust Trump and really only get or verify my news here. Fox doesn’t show me anything or change my mind about anything, just like them for some reason.
All my eggs are in those baskets. If I’m wrong, oh well. It’s going to suck regardless.
Focus on family, my job, and health. It’s freeing tbh. I notice when I go down rabbit holes, my stress goes up. Nothing really happens if you tune it out.

Everything sucks; nothing else matters…

I’m in Asia. The only English channels are CNN & BBC. It’s a 24/7 drumbeat of Trump is bad and “climate change” is an dire immediate threat. It’s interesting since I never watch that crap. So one-sided. Hopefully the people in these countries don't believe it.

100%. I am having a difficult time making heads or tails of the entire Iran situation and I sure as hell don’t trust any podcaster to steer me n the right direction.
I’ll just focus on my faith and family and pray things get sorted out according to God’s will. I’m sure as heck not in control here.

I don't listen to podcasts so thank God for that and I have zero social media outside of this place. From what I see here social media has a lot of problems with it and is meant to drive clicks for monetary purposes by catering to an audience that wants to be force-fed bullshite.
I get my world / national news from three main sources. NHK (Japanese media that shies away from opinion), CBS (which does a solid job in all honesty and has moderated themselves this year) & this place. It keeps me balanced in terms of stories covered and the slant that can come with it. I don't want to only read and view news/opinion pieces that align with my views, which are on the Right. I also have no interest in reading / viewing things that are riddled with TDS. That's equally useless to me.
I will visit other news websites from time to time but the three above are my daily go-to.

That actually seems like a pretty intentional setup compared to most people. I’ve tried doing something similar, but one thing I’ve noticed is even when I’m checking a few different places, they can still end up telling basically the same version of the story - just with a slightly different tone. Out of curiosity, do those three feel pretty distinct to you, or do they ever kind of line up in how they frame things?

AI is just going to make this harder.
Garbage in = Garbage out

Heh, yes. Yeah, that’s definitely part of it. I think what’s weird is it’s not just garbage getting fed in - people are also really good at finding the kind of stuff that already fits what they’re leaning toward. Like if I already have a take on something, it’s almost too easy now to find a bunch of versions of that same angle that all feel legit. AI probably just speeds that up more than anything.

You get to pick what podcasts you listen to. The only "political" podcast I listen to is the President's Daily Brief by an ex CIA officer, Mike Baker. 20 minutes a day, very neutral and pragmatic. I watch Gutfeld because it's hilarious, and that's it.
Meanwhile, you have 1/3 a of this board that has Israel derangement syndrome based on crap they watched on Instagram.
EU media has been absolutely awful for as long as I've read them. The crap I read/saw in Brussels, London, etc., for years was just laughable. But these are the same countries that saw a tsunami in Japan as an excuse to shut down nukes in a country... not vulnerable to tsunamis. NHK is pretty down the middle, IMO. Economist was tolerant left, the WSJ lost the plot during COVID.
ETA: a good feed to follow is "The European Conservative." Part of a recent article:
quote:
Friedrich Merz’s coalition looks set to enter a fresh round of infighting now that his own centre-right CDU has begun questioning green orthodoxy.
In particular, CDU energy minister Katherina Reiche on Monday criticised the European Union’s “rigid” 2050 climate target. She said Brussels should “accept” it might not hit ‘net zero’ by then, and allow up to a 10% leeway.
We need to become more flexible again, not just be satisfied with 100% solutions, but allow different solutions and technologies.

Correct, as people building the LLM models generally have other objectives in mind because they are also human with an agenda

Here's the conundrum ... the Catch 22, if you will.
1 - you either choose to be woefully ignorant and uninvolved, detached from everything, or ....
2 - you go down the rabbit hole.
There's really no inbetween for most these days.

My main concern is that many people don’t know who “they” is. I know for a fact my mom believes everything she reads on Facebook. She sent me a video of a motorcycle wreck saying it was from around here. The street signs weren’t even in English
