How many of your kids would choose horses over traditional sports if given the choice?

A couple of Olympics ago I discovered that the international sport of dressage exists. It's actually pretty entertaining to watch.

That's all I got.

My kids have only ridden horses a few times, all trail rides at a walking pace. With that being the case, their opinion of horses is way different than say a rodeo rider or rancher. Also, we live in a subdivision and could never keep a horse at the house. Combining all that together, the thought of riding horses over anything has never even entered their brains. However, had they learned how to barrel ride or rope cattle or other equestrian events, then maybe, but that is not the case for us. So to answer your question, absolutely not.

Too much work for mine. They bitch enough about feeding the dog and letting her out to use the bathroom.

Same. Bought a horse for the kids but they got tired of the work involved. They enjoyed riding and grooming though.

I live about 20 mins from Wellington Florida which is as big an equestrian place as there is in the country. My daughter has friends who do dressage, jumping, and all the horse related activities. From what I understand you can have an entire family of kids in travel sports for the same cost and time commitment.

It's a cool niche but there's a reason it's generally well to do folks that participate in it. The cost is pretty insane.

Do not get your daughter involved in this even though she will like it. The money is insane. My mom has 6 hunter jumpers and has her own dressage court at their farm. It’s a money pit.

We’re not horse people. A few of my older relatives had some old hags and a few mules for plowing but basically horse life was out of our budget. I was a vet tech for two summers in high school. We went to many farms and livestock sale barns. Horse people have to have money.

My kids weren't offered the choice but I was in a round-about way. I chose the horse and ultimately a cowboy's life for 10 years.

It was a thing for me as a kid and rode virtually every day in the summers, mostly with my bud who rode a mule. We would ride down through the woods to the swimming hole on Bayou D'Loutre and chase chase out the water moccasins out so we and a few others could get in.

In the fall, I'd look forward to riding into town just to be in the rodeo parade. It was a big deal for a 10 year old. Riding back home in the dark was not so hot though.

Mama always told me not to run the horse, but I did.

I think most people like the idea of horses (or pets for that matter) but not the work involved. I am included in this number.

If you think Braxstons travel ball is expensive then you dont want to go near horse ownership.

That's why their first experience with a horse needs to be cleaning up after it.

My wife rode them growing up. There are a ton of work and incredibly expensive to maintain.

Not true. I lived in a small town. Parents never rode horses. I did it on RN salary. First horse was given to us free. Plenty of horses to be adopted. Found him in auction barn. His dad won the All American.
