I am a doctor which means I had to take a lot of science classes in undergrad. Organic chemistry was a biotch and I swear I have not used anything that I learned in that class since. What are some of the classes that yall were required to take that you have not used as part of your career? I am not talking about stupid electives like theatre or literature and jazz that you took just to get an easy elective.

ETA: Correction I used organic chemistry on the MCAT but that is it.

Lots of engineering classes outside of my discipline were never used past taking the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, so I guess technically I used them

Surveying for me. I'm in materials testing and haven't used anything from that class in almost 20 years. Highway Design is another come to think of it

Nothing as far as pharmacology? There are meds that are S-enantiomers of a previous med that was a racemic mixture, etc.

I think organic chemistry is there to weed out those that don’t have what it takes or don’t have the passion for that route.

I took and finished it and switched majors

Hardest class I ever took in college.

You developed abstract problem solving skills within a complex scientific language, which is a foundational piece of the process for becoming a doctor.

Engineering is full of Calculus in engineering classes, on top of 4 semesters of straight Calculus. I never used it once in my career. My boss got excited once because he thought calculus might apply to a plant problem. He was wrong.

I graduated from LSU just as the iPhone was starting to get popular. For this reason, and for this reason alone, I have used zero of what I learned in college because that single device allowed me to forget everything I learned.

Welcome to the main problem we have with society today!

Same. 4 semesters of Spanish for an English degree.

Can't complain, though. I use it actually a ton more than I ever thought I would at my job, and use it for fun eavesdropping on staff at a couple of the places I hang out.

Not really. It could be that memory is faulty because that was over 10 years ago but the last time I recall using anything from organic chemistry was on the MCAT.

Physics was harder than organic chemistry for me in college.

Yes, those of us in the medical fields recognize this as an early weed class and nothing else. If you are too dumb to get organic chem, you are too dumb to practice medicine.

Physics is another useless one. I loved physics though, aced them both with 100s.
