Thoughts going into Oklahoma series and 1/2 point of season

My take on season to this point.
(1) Not hard to point to VERY inconsistent pitching as huge issue. Obviously this is something that if not corrected will make for a long SEC campaign
(2) Someone has to step up and take the 2nd and 3rd base position. To this point it’s kinda apparent that Carraway and Dardar are either in a funk or not ready for big time
(3) Not talked about much but I think the catchers are both a defensive liability to this point. I like both of them a lot but honestly their D is wanting.
Another point I’ll make and this might be a controversial point but it seems like we are lacking the” Tiger Culture” on this team This might be that transfers are having a hard time with pressure cooker of playing for LSU is getting to them. There isn’t enough Cade Beloso or Gavin Dugas on this team that bleed purple and gold. All these West Coast kids mb don’t get it
These are just my thoughts. I’ll still root as much as anyone, as I do for all LSU teams THANKS

Where was this pressure last year when there were fewer Louisiana players?

Unless I'm not counting correctly, we have 10 players from LA on the team this year and had 14 last year. There were 15 on the 2023 title team as well.
ETA I am not making the argument for more/less LA kids, I dont think it matters one bit, just counting the players each year

Good point. Did we miss or overestimate talent in portal this year???

I'm going off someone else's post about us playing more LA guys this year than last year. Which could be true despite smaller numbers.

Can't defend a walk. It's a killer. Also, if things don't improve then instead of the traditional shift, you may see Jay implement a shift to where either the first or 3rd baseman shift to play behind the catcher to defend the passed ball.

Very good point to make sir.
It's a shame the middle infield consisting of Washington and New Mexico natives were too soft.
Or the corner infielder tandom from Georgia. They couldn't cut it.
Neither could the outfield with guys from Florida and California.
Don't even get me started on that damn Puerto Rican catcher.

Made up buzzwords. "Culture" is only as good as your talent and your record.

Unless I'm not counting correctly, we have 10 players from LA on the team this year and had 14 last year. There were 15 on the 2023 title team as well.
SP1 - Anderson
RP ~6 - Schmidt (didn't pitch in Omaha)
RP ~7 - Mayers (pitched 2/3 of an inning in Omaha)
RF - Brown/Pearson
DH - Frey
So 6 guys max. It's really closer to 4 because Schmidt didn't really play a meaningful role on last years pitching staff, and Mayers was seldom used.
I'm not counting John Pearson, Mikey Ryan, Blaise Priester, Dylan Thompson, Primeaux, Benge, Fontenot, or Woods in guys that meaningfully contributed last year.
This year
SP3 - Schmidt
RP - Guidry
RP - Fontenot
RF - Brown
2B - Ruckert/Dardar
3B/DH - Pearson
6 guys. I'm not counting Patrick, Harden, Primeaux, or Benge.
We have more LA guys contributing this year than last year.

Okay okay thats enough. Most people here don't like facts. They use their feelings as facts!
Good work PP7 for heisman

What's important is the guys who are playing.
Last year our starters
1B - Jared Jones - Georgia
2B - Daniel Dickinson -Washington
3B - Michael Braswell - Georgia
SS - Steven Milam - New Mexico
LF - Derek Curiel - California
CF - Chris Stanfield - Florida
RF - Jake Brown - Louisiana
C - Luis Hernandez - Puerto Rico
DH - Ethan Frey - Louisiana
Bench players who got significant or semi-significant time
Josh Pearson - Louisiana
Tanner Reaves - Texas
Ashton Larson - Missouri
Cade Arambide - Texas
Pitchers who contributed
Kade Anderson - Louisiana
Anthony Eyanson - California
Chase Shores - Texas
Casan Evans - Texas
Zac Cowan - South Carolina
Mavrick Rizy - Massachusets
William Schmidt - Louisiana
Conner Ware - Mississippi
Jaden Noot - California
Connor Benge - Texas
DJ Primeaux - Louisiana
Maybe the total numbers are less this year, but actual contributors, we had very few in-state players. Only 2 in our starting 9 in the lineup were from Louisiana, and, outside Anderson, all our best pitchers were from out of state.

This is has been my biggest disappointment so far. There have been quite a few wild pitches that should have been blocked.

Aside from weak hitting this might be the most talked about thing I’ve seen around here last couple of weeks.

You are counting guys that are really not contributing. Pearson, Ruckert and Fontenot seem to be mid week hopefuls. Hopefully they will emerge, but they haven’t been regulars.

My simple take: They whiffed on their roster evaluations. Portal, pitcher, and definitely catcher. That straightforward.

OU might be the best team in the sec. Their pitching is top notch

quote:Has started multiple weekend games. Started at Vanderbilt. Is starting tonight.
Pearson
quote:Has played in the 9th most games of anyone on the team. 10th most if you take Stanfield into account. Played in all 3 games at Vanderbilt.
Ruckert
quote:Game situations against Vanderbilt didn't allow him to come in.
Fontenot
He was warming on multiple days, but Cowan shoved on Friday and Guidry wasn't coming out.
Saturday was the perfect game to get freshman innings (see South Carolina 2023 game 1) and Sunday we were situational until Sheerin shut the door.
If I take those 3 guys out (which I disagree with, especially Pearson and Ruckert) I'd also take out Schmidt and Mayers. So, my point would still remain.
