Fresh (not that fresh) topic. How do we fix this country's system of laws and regulations.

Shake the Etch-A-Sketch and start over.

The legislative branch will have to reassert their authority. They will never do so because they enjoy the lack of accountability their current situation gives them.

At the federal level, we need an enforceable one object and germaneness rule for legislation.

We need to make all filibusters talking filibusters.

We have already been rolling back Chevron deference.

We need reforms to lobbying and campaign finance.

I would like to see a larger House of Representatives with smaller legislative districts as the smaller the constituency, the less advantageous money is to a campaign. Money always helps, but smaller districts benefit people who actually know how to go door to door and talk to their constituents.

The reality is local governments are no less obtrusive than the feds or state governments these days. The money wants absolute power, and they get it.

We have to roll back and streamline permitting processes.

I like this one.

The only efficient form of govt is a benevolent dictatorship. The guy has to be wise and beyond corruption. That's very rare. The last one was Pericles. I'm available for the job but you'll have to move the White House to Bossier City.

One example of how large spread out districts bias against less funded candidates is advertising markets. Some of Louisiana’s reduculously gerrymandered districts sprawl across 3, even as many as 5 different television markets. That means buying ads in 5 different tv markets.

Louisiana has Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Alexandria, Shreveport, Lafayette, and Monroe. We only have 6 congressional districts. There is no reason (other than politics) that multiple districts should contain constituents in 3 or more of these markets within the same district. The difference in advertising cost to get the same coverage for a candidate is literally tripled that way.

Is exactly why I love both left and right wing progressives who just feel the need to "get things done". Ends justify the means to both side of our political spectrum.
