There is zero chance at least some of his fellow officers didn't know he had a problem. The officer corps and their "close the ranks" mentality is disgusting.

Headline is incorrect. He was awarded a third star and the rank of Lt Gen before "retiring". His rank is covered in the photo below, but it's more than a bit concerning to me that he has a Ukrainian flag on his United States Army uniform.

I think you meant to say having a drinking problem should equal the end of their career. There are a lot of drunks in the military, although hopefully there are precious few wearing two stars.
