Would LSU Accept NIT Bid?

When was it announced/leaked last season that LSU would turn down an NIT invitation?
With rumor posted here that LSU had submitted to host an NIT game and without any announcement/leak we would not play, I’m under impression they will accept. Could be a good way to further vet situation at low cost (can’t embarrass ourselves much more) and throw McMahon another bone to try and prove himself. Does team layover and lose again or can they string together some wins post season like Ole Miss just did that might support administration for keeping him around for another long and disappointing year.
Am I wrong thinking with the radio silence from LSU that we play if invited?

That would be embarrassing

Agreed, but where are the coms from LSU signalling that’s their stance? Since there’s none I think they’re leaning towards playing.

McMahon has proven, without a shadow of a doubt, who he is, and what he’s capable of doing at LSU.
You have to be dense as hell to think otherwise.

Hopefully we don’t. The fans don’t deserve to be subjected to crappy basketball any further. It is looking probable that this cruel joke will be prolonged next season due to the athletic department’s continued neglect of men’s basketball. We’ll get our fill of this loser next season so I’m not interested in another game.
I’m holding out for the small chance that McMahon realizes he’s in over his head and leaves for a smaller program with some dignity intact but I know we’re not that lucky.
We’ll probably accept the bid because LSU loves throwing sand in the faces of their own fans. They couldn’t care less what the fans think.

I agree, but since he hasn’t been fired yet, LSU AD seems to be considering at least letting him coach again next year. I’m embarrassed for everyone. No excuse to have a losing overall record playing cupcakes and winning less than 1/4 of conference games. McMahon is terrible fit here and has done nothing to instill confidence he can win, but I’m trying to ascertain predicting what LSU will do with a probable NIT invite.

I don't know when bids were due, but maybe there was some hope in the admin that LSU could win 2 of 4 or 3 of 4 down the stretch and then pick up a win or two in the conference tournament? Then they could point to some momentum around the program going into the NIT?
Other than that, what is the purpose of playing an NIT game at home? The PMAC will be empty, and almost none of the players playing will be back next season, even if CMM returns. It's a pointless exercise that will lose money.

Why would the NIT invite a team that bad?

Why does this query continue to appear on the Rant?
It's generally accepted that no more than ten SEC teams will make the NCAA tourney; two of those ten (Missouri and Texas) are among the Last Four In and will be "playing in" as #11 seeds. Auburn and Oklahoma are among the First Four Out, and will be hosting NIT games as probably #1 seeds. And since they're competitors, not wimps like LSU and purported LSU "fans", they will accept their bids. LSU will NOT be invited.

Why would the NIT take the literal worst team in a conference

I don’t disagree. However, dratings. Com currently has them projected as a #3 seed in the NIT.

What would be the point? Another chance to suck?

If they did in fact submit a bid, that would mean they intend to accept any bid they get. Here is the Google AI overview. Note, Nevada submitted their bid just a few days ago. The requirement is to submit your bid before the field is selected.
The KNIT score is the average of the BPI, KPI, NET, KenPom, SOR, Torvik, and WAB.

Key details on 2026 NIT hosting:
Exempt Bids (Host Rights): Two teams from the ACC/SEC with the best "KNIT" score, along with the top team from each of the top 12 conferences, receive exempt bids to host first-round games.
First Four Out: The "first four out" teams from the NCAA tournament become top seeds in the NIT and are guaranteed to host.
Automatic Bids: Regular-season conference champs with a top-125 ranking that miss the NCAA tournament get automatic, non-exempt spots, but are not guaranteed to host.
Optional Bids: While the new system emphasizes performance-based exemptions, some teams, such as in Nevada's case, have submitted bids to ensure they are considered, Nevada Sports Net reports

Does your AI model project LSU as in or out? Dratings has them currently as a 3 seed.

Let it die LSU will not be invited, they don't invite last place teams with a CLOWN as there coach!

I just googled the NIT host site selection process; that was the extent of my AI usage there. No idea what they will be seeded. I hope they decline.

NIT already has two SEC teams-- Auburn and Oklahoma. And I think both those schools have "name recognition".

I think Auburn would turn it down for sure.
We’ll probably accept the bid if it came our way because we’re cucks.
