The U.S. Navy is not ready to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, Energy Secretary Chris Wright told CNBC in an interview Thursday.

“It’ll happen relatively soon but it can’t happen now,” Wright said. “We’re simply not ready. All of our military assets right now are focused on destroying Iran’s offensive capabilities and the manufacturing industry that supplies their offensive capabilities.”

Wright said it is likely that the Navy will be in a position to escort tankers by the end of this month. “I’ll be over at the Pentagon later today — that is what the military is working on,” the Energy secretary said.

This feels like something we should have figured out ahead of time…

Its almost like the other side is fighting back.

Not everyone follows our schedule.

Yall realize this is a war and not your daily yoga class?

I think they had a plan but it went off path somewhere and are now trying to pivot. Likely going to have to strafe the entire coastline around the area and bomb it and send our navy into the actual straight unfortunately.

I think the planning said this will pay off big time for US interests. Fuel prices will stabilize after we flood the market with US oil. US will come out way ahead.

Sounds like what I voted for.

according to our new Neocons here, all the other Presidents who didnt attack Iran were pussies, for knowing how drawn out and detrimental to the global oil market that attacking Iran's regime would be.

This needed to be a short operation. Which didnt happen.

Is that why we have to tap the SPR?

Oh I’m well aware. I’m not the one who is telling the media that we are basically out of targets while my energy secretary is saying we can’t escort tankers because we’re focused on offensive strategies for the next couple weeks.

Which is it?

Tapping the SPR is more for optics while we ramp up production.

And selling some oil reserves is a pretty smart idea at high prices, then refill it at low prices. Especially considering this is exactly what the SPR was intended for. win/win

Damn shame Biden never refilled it after he did it though.

Their whole plan is that we’d drop a bunch of bombs and kill a lot of people - then the Iranian people would magically rise up and overthrow the rest of their leadership and the military quickly. Apparently they had no back up plan if that didn’t work. Israel is plan out trying to push the country into a massive civil war which I don’t think China will allow to happen

So you think a plan always plays out and no contingencies are made? Most things in life rarely plays out according to a plan they have, the world is full of people that never had a backup plan. War itself is a constant state of reevaluating existing conditions then taking actions. People not aware of the plans doesn’t equate with a valued opinion

I also think we will see special forces try to get their fissile material sometime soon. Assuming we know where it is, which i would hope.

We shall see. We can’t seem to stop these attacks on tankers and ships in the area despite our success vs their navy.

There are indications of magical thinking coming out of Washington. The whole idea that a war can be launched that will completely suppress a large militarized government in a huge country by aerial bombardment in a couple of weeks is insane.

It's pretty narrow and I think they can just take pot shots from the shore.

If we try to take Kharg, everyone can kiss their butts goodbye. They will just try to destroy all gulf oil infrastructure.
