Even with an extra inning game and Mexico winning I think USA advances. They needed either an Italy win OR a Mexico win with Mexico scoring 5 runs in 9. To force extra innings and win Mexico would have had to do that.
Once Italy was +6 runs it sealed Mexico and USA’s fate.
