8 episode season dropped today. This is based on Patricia Cornwell's series of books. There are 29 books in the series. I'm not seeing much buzz about this show, seems kinda strange. Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Canavale, Ariana DeBose star.
Anyone interested in this one?

Looks like a good cast. Will have to check it out.
Is it just me or has Nicole Kidman been in a lot recently?

She remains way overexposed. When was her last upper tier movie that she was really good in?

I read a couple of the books that were pretty good. Might be decent.

Haven't read the books but after 20 mins I'm out. Very dull and uninteresting.

Huge fan of the book series. About 20 minutes into the first episode. It has my interest, but a couple of things are off with it.
Casting is way off for most of the characters. In the books Scarpetta isn't tall and shapely; Pete Marino is a big guy with a shaved head; her sister is very buxom and likes showing it off. I think the Benton Wesley character may be the only one cast correctly.
Also, Scarpetta started her career in Richmond then went into private practice and returned to Alexandria. This has her "returning" to Alexandria.
It is interesting that this is touching on her immediate return, something that was just kind of recapped in the book series.
ETA - maybe her literary contract forbids it, but it's disappointing that Cornwell didn't have a hand in writing this.

It’s been awhile since I read one of her books, but I was thinking this as well.
I trying to look at episode descriptions, and the time jumping seems off from what I read which isnt all of them. The descriptions make it seem like they are given equal time. I stopped reading her books at some point before 2008, and some of those were older books i got from my mother and not her current ones at the time (last one i read was published in maybe 2004 or 2005). I just don’t remember a lot of jumping back in time especially with all the characters involved. That must be something in newer books
I also have questions about Benton still being around. Was he brought back in later book, or this a series addition?

The time jumping is unique to the Amazon series. In the books there are some, I wouldn't even call them flashbacks, maybe callbacks or reminisces to explain something, but not like what they're doing in the show. I think this is more to lay the groundwork/provide background on the characters.

Benton is a key character in the books. Not going to say much more for fear of spoiling something in the show, but he is a key character in all of the current books.

The wife and I were just looking for something new. This will fit the bill.
Thanks for the tip!

They could not have picked a worse actor to play Scarpetta. I have read all of Cornwells books. Kidman is not close to the character in the book

The book series is a decent collection of crime procedural. If done well, the series could be worth watching.

It is interesting to read this with the Dark Winds thread. I only read two books a long time ago, but I read most of the Tony Hillerman books and that's why i can't get into the Dark Winds series.

Never read them, but I'm interested in your take. How is Scarpetta described in the books? Who could play her, as described?

Well she’s of Italian descent and very cerebral. To me that disqualifies Kidman right off the bat. I am trying to think of who I would pick to play this part, gimme a few lol

I know she is is described as blonde hair/blue eyes. The more recent books haven't really touched on physical description but I seem to remember that she was more of an average height and build, not fat but a few extra pounds as she goes through middle age. Maybe an Edie Falco or Emma Thompson type?
Pete Marino in the books is a big guy. Early on as a homicide detective he's a borderline alcoholic, high blood pressure, overweight. Later on he becomes a gym rat (maybe using steroids) shaves his head.
