I'm afraid Lord of the rings is going to get into Star Wars territory. You have this brilliant original trilogy and that is going to keep getting more and more stuff made that does not need to be made.

This story was summed up in a couple paragraphs for a reason. Some stories are ok taking place off screen. This does not need an entire movie.

More LOTR is nice in theory. More LOTR based on no source is not.

What LOTR story is eventually going to become unfortunately:

What female lead is this? Wasn't it just Gandalf and Aragorn? Leave well enough alone.

Sorry, I just don't see her as Gollum.

I'll give anything LOTR related a chance if early reviews are good, but I'm not expecting much. The OG trilogy set the bar too high..

This isn't a rumor, this is the trades confirming it. Taylor-Joy was likely the rumor being passed around on social media.

Does this mean it is female led, or will there be more leads? I mean we can agree making LOTR a female brand is as big a mistake as SW and the MCU, right?

Well it's got Aragorn and Gandalf in it about a story of them hunting Gollum. So I doubt she supplants any of those three as the lead. Frodo/Elijah Wood has all but confirmed he's in it as well.

Given her age I doubt she is going to be a beauty at Rivendell. I would imagine the story would give Gollums story back when he was still Smeagol so I'd take an outside guess that this is Smeagols grandmother. She was kind of the matriarch of the Stoor hobbit and actually the one who exiled Smeagol. No idea though but can't see her being a true "lead".

She’s going to show her boobs and let Gandalf motorboat her. I’m here for it.

I have read literally nothing about this movie aside from this thread.

Rings of Power and the Gollum game have just sapped all faith in this IP.

Please let this be good.

I am betting a hobbit. She has hobbit-like facial features

Oscar winner Winslet will join a cast that includes the return of Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Serkis as Gollum

Everything about this seems weird to me. Why would Frodo be involved in a "hunt for Gollum?" Wouldn't any such have occurred before Gollum hid away beneath the mountain where he encountered Bilbo? Frodo's interactions with Gollum ended in Gollum being destroyed with the ring, which we all saw for ourselves.
