National Standardized Testing for school kids

A popular one going back decades is the Iowa assessment, a test structure originally developed by of the University of Iowa. It was administered regularly in all 50 states at one point, and is still widely administered.
My kid goes to a private school that doesn't typically participate. But they just implemented this year, with an opt-in thing for the parents. We opted in just to see where his achievements landed among the nation of other test takers. Still waiting for results.
I talked to my BIL who is a nearby public school teacher, he says nobody in Georgia does that anymore, it's all the Georgia Milestones, they don't do the Iowa. So you are only compared to other scores in the state instead of nationally.
Who actually still participates in the Iowa Standardized testings these days?
When I was in school decades ago, it was pretty much in every school everywhere, despite the name "Iowa".

Some of These colleges don’t even look at standardized test scores like the ACT nowadays. LSU is just now requiring it again but “it will only be evaluated in conjunction with the overall record.” We all know what that really means.
The college degree has been deflated in value over the last 20 years due to lowered standards.

The Iowa Assessments have nothing to do with college admissions. It's just a database.

What do they do in Des Moines?

Apparently I need to amend OP as people think this is something Iowa specific.

Once the outlet mall shut down they couldn’t afford to print the tests for the whole nation

3 in the morning
We took the CogAT and OLSAT tests in elementary school which were administered nationwide.
True story my scores qualified me for Mensa membership at like age 8.
I guess that's why they moved me to Gifted and Talented. Some people are good at tests.

Back when I was a kid in elementary school (early 80s) we had to take it. Back then it was called the ITBS, Iowa Test of Basic Skills.

We took SRA tests in the late 60's. Scholastic Reading Ability. I made 12th grade, 9th month level in the 3rd grade. They wanted to move me up 2 grades. My mother threw a fit. Didn't happen thank God. I wasn't that smart.

Standardized testing is racist. Everyone knows that.

High school education in the 60s and 70s was equivalent to what college kids learn now with exception of some STEM like Computer Science.

The Iowa Assessments are also taken in schools throughout the United States and overseas by approximately 3 million students annually.
LINK
For the record, there are almost 50 million k-12 students, so about 6% of students take the IOWA test. LINK

I took the SRA in elementary school, is that still a thing?
It seems that many private schools use “no standardized testing” as a recruiting tool, but I wonder if it’s so they don’t have to be compared to others.
Most states have their own public schools use test aligned to state standards.
I think really the only national testing left with a lot of takers is ACT and SAT

How do you think Louisiana and Mississippi shot up the ranks so fast? It's gaming the system.

Standardized testing is racist.
Measurement of school achievement and aptitude for higher education became part of the US education experience about 1900. As testing and analytics became more sophisticated efforts were made to factor out things like being disadvantaged, Unfortunately, you can't get around the fact kids growing up in supported educated families do better that kids that don't.
I've always wondered if some of the decline in the use of these tests is that schools are avoiding evaluation.
