60% does sound very high. I would have to assume you need at lead a SSN to try for federal welfare. I could see a lot of it coming from blue state welfare programs. Would not surprise me if they just hand it out to whomever asks.

Growing up, my mom was eligible at one time for “food stamps”. Her pride wouldn’t allow her to accept assistance. She found ways to make ends meet. Today it seems like some folks are proud of being on assistance and working the system.

Ive met people who fight for their disability benefits and celebrate when they get it awarded.
Their parents are also on disability.
The part that pisses me off is this most recent individual was a full time student and working as a roadside assistance tech under the table. Got his permanent disability awarded at 20 years old.
