I’m not sure this team is good enough to pay a RB what we just did Etienne.

He’s a very good player and I’m sure he will play well for the Saints but I just don’t think we are at the stage to be paying RB $13 million a year, top 5 money at his position, when we are just getting out of cap hell. I’d rather use that money on the lines and draft a RB in the 2nd-4th round range.

I'd agree, but we also signed arguably the best guard available

Etienne is a really strong fit and has been a 1k yard rusher in 3/4 of his seasons.

We paid a top 10 back top 3 money. We also got the poor man’s Alvin and this offense needs more arse at RB. We need a guy like Washington out of Arkansas. That’s what Moore uses in this offense.

Etienne was a luxury piece. We need a meat and potatoes guy.

No I agree the David Edwards signing was huge and he will plug one of the gaping holes at guard finally but we still have Ruiz who is dogshit. I think we can address that in the first 100 picks but I’d have waited to spend at RB when I felt good about my OL and DL.

Etienne is a good player, but I agree. Think I woukd preferred giving that money to Lloyd. Running back shoukd be kinda the final piece you add to complete your team. We still need a starting receiver.

Most running backs are a dime a dozen.

RB pay is still not in line with the rest of the positions.

Even at top 5 money it still amounts to just 4% of the cap. Its the cheapest position to pay top players

Why are we arguing against a starting RB at 4%?

Would you have been happier with Kenneth Walker at 15m per for 3 years? I probably would have personally. I just think he's way more dynamic and explosive even tho Etienne is a little more versatile.

We need playmakers and we got one. We aren’t that far away. If Shough is who we think he is then we should make the playoffs next year. With a couple good drafts we should be serious Super Bowl contenders by 2027.

That’s what we’ve had for five seasons and it hasn’t worked. I guess we could run Estime up the middle 20 times for our “meat and potatoes”. You need playmakers and we got one as said above. Such weird takes in here.

This right here. There's no powerhouse dynasty in the NFL right now. If a team can make the playoffs with a decent QB, good defense, and just one or two real playmakers, they are as likely to win a Super Bowl as anyone. Saints should be in that mix by 2027, it would be dumb to wait until that season to start looking for playmakers. We aren't "too far away" for anything.

Saints Talk Board: "Kellen needs to be fired if we don't make the playoffs next year"

Also Saints Talk Board: "I can't believe Kellen is signing good players to this much money"

Etienne is a good inside zone back which is what Kellen Moore runs with the capability to make explosive plays happen. This offense needs a sustained running game which will help Shough tremendously.

Not to mention the saints are required to spend big this free agency to meet the 3 year NFL free agency spending minimum. I knew once we’d spend everyone would complain.

I like Etienne a lot as a player. I watch the jags almost every week with my son as he is a huge fan. I wouldn’t have paid him what we did. Not that we can’t figure out the money but because he’s already shown signs of breaking down (2024 season) and because he’s already lost a bit of his wheels from early in his career.

I don’t think I communicated well. Moore’s offense is better suited for a big back. A back like Etienne is a luxury, not a main cog.

Look at the run game last year. When did it start to click?

Moore wasn’t the coach for the last 5yrs and are you saying Kamara was a run it up the gut back? He has been our main RB for the last 5yrs.

Weird takes indeed.

Rank
11
Travis Etienne
Travis Etienne
Jacksonville Jaguars · Year 5
2025 stats: 16 games | 246 att | 1075 rush yds | 4.4 ypc | 7 rush TDs | 35 rec | 286 rec yds | 6 rec TDs | 0 fumbles lost

Etienne bounced back in a big way from a disappointing 2024 campaign. He led the Jags with nearly 1,400 scrimmage yards and a career-high 13 scrimmage TDs. He also led the team with six receiving touchdowns, making him the only RB in the league to pace his team in the category. The Jags would be making a mistake if they let Etienne hit free agency after what he showed he can do in Liam Coen's offense.

Kamara and a mixture of dogshit, yes. We’ve needed new blood at RB for some time. But muh money!

This is, objectively, a good signing. Not sure where everyone is worried about money. This signing will not stop the Saints from signing or resigning anyone they want to. If anything, it opens up the draft for BPA or BP on defense.
