It's just belief perseverance with a side of the backfire effect. I've had so many discussions with leftists and it doesn't matter how much evidence you provide. Their beliefs have become who they are and evidence only makes them dig in their heels more.

I liked the part about, "We were born and raised here in NY. You don't get to come from outside and tell everyone else...". These folks don't mind illegal aliens and paid protestors coming from outside and protesting against ICE on US streets, but don't like US citizens crossing state lines to state their differing opinions.
