George Wallace won 90% of the black vote in the 1982 Gubernatorial election...

This absolutely blows my mind. Despite his famous "Segregation Forever" speech and all of his other pro-segregationist rhetoric in the 1960s and 1970s, Wallace still captured 90% of the black vote in the state of Alabama when he won re-election as a Democrat.
Who knew an apology was all you needed to earn the forgiveness of people who were present in Birmingham and Selma during his administration?

It was the D next to his name. People could literally campaign in their clan sheets as long as they're a Democrat and black people will still vote for them.

Reminded me of this song:

People love to claim the party’s flipped and all the old racists became repubs, but here is the proof it’s bullshite. George Wallace was at the very core of segregation and everything that stemmed from it. He was a democrat when he stood in the school house door and a democrat until the day he died. It is mind blowing that the man who did everything in his power to ensure blacks were treated as second class citizens could garner one black vote much less 90% percent of it.

LBJ once famously said about black people that he would have those n words voting Democrat for the next 100 years.

Those blacks didn’t want to be around liberals either

Has it ever occurred to you that blacks liked having their own shite?

Blacks will always vote democrat no matter what they do.
Thats why Dems ignore them except when it’s election season.
Very few break from that democratic plantation

Dems get credit for civil rights because of JFK and LBJ. Can't help but wonder if it was just all part of the playbook.

That is a gross oversimplification of segregation. It also ignores all of the pro-segregationist violence against black Americans that Wallace turned a blind eye to throughout his tenure as governor.

If you're a Democrat, you mean.

One only has to look at the bank accounts associated with their Reverends to understand why the congregation votes that way. On Sunday, the reason for their long sermons is due to the political discussion held behind the pulpit!!

Wallace was in favor of segregation, just as the entire black population is right now.
Maybe even less so.

The Civil Rights Act never gets passed if it wasn’t for Republican senators, the Democrats had no intention of ever letting it pass. And LBJ said he’d have “those n@@ers voting Democrat for the next 200 years”.
Somewhere out there, there’s a really good documentary regarding the civil rights initiative, I believe it was originally aired on PBS. It gets down to the true nuts & bolts of it. Some serious leg work was done by the Congessional committee tasked with it and how much it would cost. They brought it back to LBJ’s desk and he went berserk, literally screamed at the them when the financials were revealed.

Wallace just took a page from the LBJ book. He was promising hand outs left and right. That got him the black vote.

My recollection of that era is that black population saw Wallace as honest and unambiguous in his beliefs. It had to be suspected that most other White politicians were lying racists.

This is how the uniparty remains in power. They know 90%+ are too scared of voting outside the box because they feel like they lose if the person they vote for doesnt win.
Its why non D or R politicians have no chance. People should vote on principles rather than treating it like sports. If your candidate loses it doesnt mean you lost. You voted for what you wanted and were outvoted by morons.

As Nancy Pelosi once said, put a D on a glass of water and Democrats will vote for it
