They could easily make money doing it. 5-10 flights a day total to places like HOU, BNA, ATL.

doesn’t seem to matter to the three servicing the airport right now

The existing carriers have attempted to expand service in BTR over the years & can't fill a 50 passenger plane. AA has cut back the DCA flight to just a few days a week. I doubt Southwest ever starts service here. MSY is just too close to much of the BTR market. I've always been curious as to what % Southwests MSY passengers are actually from BTR.

The three airlines servicing BTR literally have a different routing strategy (hub and spoke) compared to Southwest (point to point).

Hub and spoke service to BTR makes sense, enough people want to fly in/out of BTR, and if you’re flying to Baton Rouge you don’t mind the hub connection.

If Southwest flies out of BTR, where is it going?

I think there are enough disney adults in the br metro area to support a few orlando flights. You have baws on turnarounds who can fly to hobby. Austin for the tech bros and LSU-UT events.

I wrote a letter to SWA once asking this question. Got a quick, very polite response. Basically told me in so many words that they knew BR people would drive to MSY to catch one of their flights, and it didn’t make sense economically to try and fund and staff another location so close by.

Many People will want to fly out of BTR but most will check the prices and see it’s 25-50% more in price. Then they’ll say, nah, I’ll just drive to Nola.

Baton Rouge's population has shifted Southeast. For people who live in St. George it takes 50 mins to get to MSY or 30 mins to get to BTR.

If it was financially beneficial for them to do so, they would. It’s not, so they won’t.

You have to go through the worst part of BR traffic to get to the airport while going to NOLA you dont really have any.

This it really almost isn't even worth it to fly out of Baton Rouge still when you have to deal with potential terrible traffic crossing town vs just driving a bit further to New Orleans
