Looks like Bill Lawrence has done it again. 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. That will be 5 hit shows on tv right now. Shrinking Scrubs Bad Monkey Ted Lasso and now Rooster.

IGN gives Rooster a 10/10 and calls it a masterpiece.

Rooster is a magic trick of a TV show. It's elevated in its approach yet grounded in its appeal. The series is a masterclass in acting, with stand-out performances by Steve Carell, Danielle Deadwyler, John C. McGinley, and more.

I haven't listened to that song in a long time. Looks good. I’ll give it a shot

This show is horrible. Has to be the worst show/best acting talent I’ve seen.

Feels like AI wrote the first 3-4 episodes. I turned off the first episode 10 minutes in. Tries to slog on thru the next few. Doesn’t get any better.

A show that is made well, with good actors, yet the writing and plot is awful. I don’t know why Alan Ruck, McGinley, and Connie Britton put their names on this. Waste of their time.

Yes, Steve Carell was great holding The Office together. He was perfect in 40 year old Virgin. But he’s not a leading man. He’s a side character. He comes off as a generic version of Robin Williams when he tries to do stuff like this. Can’t take him seriously.

The Trailer makes this show seem far more interesting than it actually is. Skip it

How have you seen the first 3-4 episodes? Only 2 have been released by HBO?

Wow, I actually really like it so far.

Despite the somewhat wacky plot, I am digging it. I just am rolling with the obvious ridiculousness at this point (the JCM president character, the daughter literally burning the house down but getting off because "it was an accident" even though she started the fire on purpose and burned a piece of history, etc.).

The love angle with the black professor seems a little forced, but it's whatever. And I like that Rooster turned her down.

I dig the relationship between him and his daughter, and how he's always screwing shite up.

The daughter is fairly unlikable, but it's whatever.

I also like the cop guy and that whole angle.

I find that I just like Steve Carrell, and this character has a good bit of Michael Scott in him (just more capable and not quite as socially awkward). So that is why I like it I think.

"Bye, dad."
"Yup, see ya Monday."

Watched the first episode and it was pretty rough. I love Steve Carell so I'll try to keep going but the first episode was a bit too much ridiculous comedy.

The daughter is an idiot. I will have a hard time continuing if she stays this dumb. Adult climbing in the tree stalking and then literally burning a house down. I was already mad she burned a first edition War and Peace and then the whole house burns down and she I guess will just get off just because it's funny?

Don't want to be too critical, it was just one episode and I like Shrinking and Carrel enough to keep giving it a shot but there were some serious roll your eyes moments in there.

The 2nd episode was alot funnier than the 1st. The cop character is funny. It's ok so far an ill probably keep watching when nothing else is on but i already have the "feel good comedy" covered by Shrinking on Apple which is tough to beat.

Thought the first episode was okay at best. But I really liked the second episode and hope it continues like this.

The hardest thing in shows like this is figuring out the tone early on. Is it a drama with some comedy, slapstick, dark comedy, fantasy, ect.? This show is a little more absurd and not grounded in normal reality. Once I get that it makes shows like this easier for me to get into.

McGinley with his shirt off twice in two separate scenes within the first 10 minutes made me think “do the writers really think that’s funny or people want to see that?”

Sorry... we're really liking this show. It's been appointment viewing on Sunday night the last 2 weeks.... just like old times.

Sounds like typical Lawrence. I'll give it a shot.

ETA: I misread your post, but I mean that his stuff generally does blur lines like that.

It finally hit a stride for me in Ep. 3. I was crying listening to Rooster chew the nuts I told my wife that I could definitely picture Derrick (Shrinking) doing something like that.

I was on the fence after 2 episodes, but I’m definitely in now.

Yeah, I'm caught up and digging it.

Rory Scovel as the cop is sneaky funny, as is Cristle (especially during the sexual harassment "hearings".)

Tommy and Spooner are fun comic relief and Sunny is funnier than people give her credit for.

McGinley, as usual, can't do much wrong and Carrell and Deadwyler are surprisingly good playing off each other.

Really the only weak spots for me are Jamie Tart and Carrell's daughter.
