Coach has got his work cut out for him this year. He has arms for the weekend, but when/if we go deep in tournaments, who do we think will step up? I really want to see these kids start pounding the zone EARLY in midweek games, seems most of the damage from Northeastern came from walks scoring on hits from crappy gimme pitches on 3-1,2-0 counts.

Pearson didn’t give up 13 hits

Not saying fire yeskie but it’s silly to blame one person for tonight

As others have pointed out, we really only use 7-8 pitchers in the post season. You already have:

1. Evans
2. Moore
3. Schmidt
4. Guidry
5. Sheerin

Now you need 3 of:

Cowan
Williams
Dathe
Ricken
Paz
Zion
Garcia
Lachenmayer
Primeaux
Rizy
Noot
Fontenot
Benge
Plog

to step up.

You have seen it from Rizy, Cowan, William, Dathe, Noot, and Plog. You have other guys like Lachenmayer, Garcia, and Fontenot who have done it for a little while in college. You have some of those freshman arms that have potential.

I think this staff will turn out to be very, very good. Especially once Jay has confidence in guys and let's them really go.

Gotta get Paz and Ricken to come along bc so far it doesn’t look like Willams and Cowan can get it done. Noot probably can but gotta build him up, he’s just been short stints so far.

I don’t know who else can extend 4-5 innings outside of those guys. Maybe build up theopolis or plog.

Rizy has been good, why not make him 6 right now?

Im going to say one of those guys who came in tonight and got experience in relief knowing they needed a shut down inning if we had any chance to come back. Regardless of how they did, they got to perform.

Rizy is a reliable arm that needs to be in the top group.

Cowan was so good for the majority of last season.
And had a couple good outing at the end of the year. He has to find his control and get out in front of hitters.

But he has been bad this year, and had some periods last year when he wasn’t good.

Yeah listen it was a shite game for Jon. Crazy to think he was gonna be our starter at 3rd before Carraway transferred. Obviously the ball comes off the bat different on the opposite corner but those plays have to be made. All 13 runs don’t land at his feet but damn if it didn’t feel like that after the 3rd inning being down 8-0.

I think this staff has potential FOR SURE. And my post really wasn’t bashing them, just trying to figure out which guys we think are going to step up. Paz has had two week showings during mid week games and definitely needs to find his touch to find the strike zone, after such a high highschool recruit out of Texas, you always look for a little more. But like Schmidt last year, sometimes things don’t come together so quick and easy.

I think he is, but he still has control issues here and there. Kind of my point though. We have a ton of arms. We've just been in a weird spot this season where we're playing 5/6 games in 7/8 days - something we won't do again until June.

This has resulted in an extremely warped view of the pitching staff.

In June, Jay won't go to Noot for one batter and Rizy for 2 and Cowan for 2 and Williams for 1. He's going with his best until they don't have their best, and then going back to the well to get another one of his best.

Him not throwing for 18 months definitely plays a part as well.

I do think we're in a position to where, similar to last year with Schmidt, we don't need 50 innings from Paz to achieve our goals. It'd be awesome if he steadily improved and was throwing in Omaha, but we don't NEED it.

Not worried about the pitching. A lot of guys that are seeing time on the mound will not be counted on during SEC or post season play. Was not expecting Cooper Williams to struggle as much as he has but we have 5 guys that are absolute studs. We will find another 3-4 to contribute and will have a good staff.

Just need Stanfield back and get some guys out of this slump offensively.

We were also getting auto 7+ inning wins from Skenes, Holman, Jump, Anderson, Eyanson. We need 1 or 2 of our SPs to reach that level if were going to go through the postseason only using 7-8 guys

Only 51% of his pitches have been strikes

in 6.2IP he has 6 walks and 3 HBP.

one inning he looks like Paul Skenes and the next inning cannot find the plate.
