You must not have been around for the Skip Bertman era. His leash was shorter than Jay's for some of the shitty midweek games. Skip wasn't having any bullshite. If you couldn't throw strikes, you didn't last long.
And he always said the midweek games often show him who could NOT be counted on later.

Can’t pitch well or hit well in mid/week against usually subpar competition, most of the time that means the coach won’t trust you as much in way way harder league play..

Ehhh its if you give up free bases. Giving up a hit isn't going to get you pulled. Getting consistently hit in bunches that will. But last night it was about giving up the free bases. Hits weren't a concern.
