The old USSR was militaristic, bread lines, total 100% government control of businesses, everyone lived in dreary huge apartment complexes (except the Communist political elites of course).

Canada, much like most of Western Europe, Australia, NZ, the entire American Democratic Party and a significant portion of the establishment GOP - fancy themselves after the CCP model of authoritarian government where, so long as you follow government rules and follow proper-approved “thought and speech”, you are generally going to be permitted to make a living and the ability to have some entertainment options. (But don’t DARE ever frick with, question or challenge the government, the government’s business or the government’s plans for your country. Stay in your lane.)

The Chinese (to their credit) took advantage of Western attempts to invite “openness” and business and blended it into an authoritarian government with a “capitalist face”.

Instead of eventually turning China into a western style democracy, our own elites have instead grown very fond of China’s model and seek to impose it upon us.

1980 was not for the gold medal. It was a semi final. We beat Finland in the actual final.

So.. they beat Russia in order to play in a game for a gold medal?

Thanks for proving OP’s point moron.

That’s what not OP meant, and you’re a barely literate troglodyte who lives in a trailer park. Your posts read like a plant from the DU that are meant to embody every lame stereotype of a fat inbred red neck.

True or false:

In 1980, America beat Russia, also known as a communist country, and won a gold medal at the same Olympic event.

That’s literally all the OP was saying.

Stop trying to downplay the significance of this event. Take your anti-American bullshite back to Reddit.

Why didn’t he mention the Czechoslovakia game that year? Both wins were needed to get to the gold medal game vs Finland. Czech was communist as well.

Face it, he was ignorant about who we played to win the gold that year. You’re lying if you think otherwise.

I was simply correcting the record, but I’m glad you enjoyed a temporary diversion from your fat, poor, inconsequential life at the plant. Back to work tomorrow baw!

I mean the OP was incorrect about the last two countries we beat for a gold medal in hockey. Just calling out the ignorance.

Happy to beat America’s hat for the gold and loved how proud our team was to play for our country.

Don’t work in a factory, but it’s nice to know you look down on blue collared factory workers because you’re an out of touch POS.

Aren’t you late for your next COVID booster shot?

Think original Op may be referencing things like this? Cause I'm told by leftists this is how fascists, then communists act. You know, taking personal property and stopping people from assembly?

And In case you've forgotten, that's a white boy liberal under that makeup.

On February 14, 2022, the Canadian federal government invoked the Emergencies Act (for the first time in its history since 1988). This granted temporary extraordinary powers, including:

-Allowing police to create "no-go zones" and disperse assemblies in designated areas.

-Compelling tow truck operators to remove vehicles (many local operators had refused earlier due to safety concerns or threats).

-Freezing bank accounts and financial assets linked to protesters, organizers, or those suspected of supporting the blockades (without court orders in some cases).

-Banning public assemblies that could lead to breaches of the peace and restricting funding/donations to the protests.
