Questions about coverage during the entire Games

Did they ever actually show anything other than curling and hockey?
I tried the DirecTV "Winter Olympics Mix" channel every night and some during the day. It frequently only showed NBC and USA in a split screen. And it was almost always curling and then sometimes hockey.
I would flip over to Peacock and it would basically be the same thing.
I never saw a single medal ceremony. I can distinctly remember enjoying the Torino games because they would show events the Italians won gold in and the crowd would exhuberantly sing that Italian national anthem.
I never saw a single mention of my favorite event - Snowboard Cross - only to find it had completed like a week before I thought to look.
Whatever happened to the omnibus presentation of a flurry of diverse events, played on repeat, often across 5-6 channels (CNBC, etc.)?
I'm not saying I didn't see any ice skating or cross country, but it was a very low % of coverage. I think probably ski jump was the next most shown event, which also gets extremely tedious.

I kind of agree with you brother. In times past like you said you had USA Network CNBC MSNBC and of course NBC showing different coverages and I went ahead and ordered peacock and you are right, there has been a lot of curling and a lot of hockey and I'm interested. As a matter of fact, I still don't know how you score in curling, but I've really enjoyed watching the women's team and the mixed team and have enjoyed it and of course enjoyed hockey. I have watched a good bit of bobsled and you're right, the snowboard cross was way back at the beginning and for whatever reason there used to be replays and I'm not seeing a lot of replay so I understand you're disappointing in the coverage. I sure hope they do a better job with the Summer Olympics. God willing and I'm still doing healthy. I plan to be retired and going to salt lake City. Maybe see some of these events live but but everything will be coming to an end here soon. I'm watching the gala ice skating live right now. There were some great skaters for sure. Have a great day!

I loved Gold Zone 2 years ago but I got burnt out pretty quickly on it this year. They went way too heavy on it. I hope they can look back when NBC is preparing for 2030 that they can see how overboard they went and either have a quad box Curling channel separate from GZ. Hockey was on point with how they covered Team USA. If anything, I think they may move to MORE hockey.
Meanwhile GZ has been curling and replays from the past two weeks. Dual screen with the FS Gala but who in the hell decided to have the audio on curling (where we've already heard the same strategy conversation dozens of times) over the music at the Gala? (The only positive it's that I'd rather hear that conversation than Johnny Queer gayly frick around with Terry Gannon's full legal name.)
Meanwhile GZ has been curling and replays from the past two weeks. If you have Peacock, go into the individual event by sport via the Olympics hub. You’ll have to fast forward through to find the medal ceremonies at the end.

NBC daytime played a lot. Prime time played what we did well in but hardly showed hockey or Curley. USA played those exclusively it seemed. Not to mention you could rewatch any event you wanted

If you have peacock you have no excuse to miss anything that you wanted to see.

There is one thing I forgot to mention. They showed a good variety of events on the late night show. I thought it was a great mix of event footage and behind the scenes footage from the Team USA Party House. One thing is for sure. I have had my fill of Maria Taylor. Keep her offscreen until the HOF game.

They had everything important on either NBC or USA, you didn’t even need to venture to Peacock to see the major events live or replayed.

Coverage was awesome, if you had Peacock. Curling was on CNBC and USA. Hockey was on USA. The sports they highlighted Team USA were on NBC, like figure skating, or alpine skiing.
On Peacock you could find every single thing. From left to right they had Gold Zone, Coverage from Milan, then each individual sport that was coming up live next. Then you could go into each individual sport and watch any replay plus search for upcoming events live complete with medal ceremonies that you need to stick around for as they just show a live arena shot until they come back for the ceremony.
I've gone back and watched several alpine skiing, cross country, and biathlon events I missed but wanted to watch.
All you have to do is try a little and everything is available to watch.

I think I realized too late how important Peacock was. Having said that, I was traveling a lot too and anytime people's TV was randomly on, it was seemingly always curling.
Sounds like they starved the late night channels of variety in an effort to push to Peacock? I can very confidently report that almost every night (again, after 10PM on the west coast mostly), the only thing on offer on cable seemed to be USA showing curling.
I have very little interest in hunting specific things down on Peacock, though. I'm a mostly casual viewer who wanted more of a curated experience. I don't think I'm imagining that it's way less curated than it used to be. I remember in games past not even having to try and you would come away with a pretty good feeling how the entire games went.

Case in point: right now, it's 7PM PST. Exactly one thing is on: curling on USA. CNBC and NBC are showing nothing.

NBC had three hours of events every day from 7 pm to 10 pm Central and from 10:30 to 11:30 or 12:00 (depending on the day), except on Super Bowl Sunday when they had events from 9:30-11:00 Central.

FWIW I don’t have Peacock, but I do have YouTube TV.
I think every single event was shown live on NBC or USA, though the long events like Biathlon and Cross Country Skiing were trimmed down to 30 or 60 minutes.
But of course these were in non-primetime slots. It did require us to search on YouTube TV. I think DirecTV was pretty similar though. I set up a bunch of recordings for my parents in 2024.

Winter Olympics doesn’t have nearly as many events as summer so yes they use curling as filler programming.
Less than 10 events a day but 12 curling matches at over 2 hours each day.
Like others have said peacock’s coverage is awesome. Especially when it’s in Europe, you can stream whatever you want with no commercials as soon as you wake up.
