Yes
ETA: For me it’s Alien/Aliens, and T1/T2. How Cameron was able to turn the second ones in each of those series into totally different feeling of films, while staying true to the originals, was awesome to see. For both of those I can’t say that one is superior over the other. They’re just different.
For SW, ESB was always a perfect film to me, but when paired and stacked against the other two, they don’t measure up.

I'd go Alien/Aliens
Alien is the best movie of the 6.
Alien/Aliens is the only pair that has 2 absolute classics.
I know the star wars people will disagree with that, but those people have always been apologists for questionable quality.

Alien/Aliens only because it’s two different movies from two different legendary directors
Yes Empire was directed by Irvin Kirschner, but that’s only because George Lucas hated the day to day work of being a director and it was still his original vision.
Edit: James Cameron is the sequel GOAT

The kid in me says SW/ESB, but the adult easily says Alien/Aliens.

Never seen Alien. Cant imagine how these could rank above Star Wars though.
There's a reason it's a multi billion dollar franchise that still lives on even with Disney running it into the ground.

T1/T2 for me. T2 is perfection.

That’s like choosing your favorite kid

I love, or at least loved, all of those movies (Star Wars is a bit damaged but Empire is a great movie).
T2 is probably the best movie of its type so I will say Terminator and T2. Agree with the comments about Alien and Aliens being outstanding and admirably different types of movies.
I'd also give honorable mentions to the first two Lethal Weapon movies, Paddington, Evil Dead, and the Godfather

What? Alien is literally regarded as one of the very few perfect films.
You need to watch it.

I cant separate SW bc it is a trilogy and same with LOR.
I lean toward Alien/Aliens but T1/T2 is right there. I like the space setting better.
I love how both franchises had more of a horror theme in the 1st movies and huge action movies in the 2nd movie.
Of those four i would rank them:
Alien
T1
Aliens
T2

Well God Damn
Empire
Aliens
T2
Terminator
Alien
New Hope
I don't know a criteria that would put one duo over the other. My kneejerk right now would be Alien/Aliens. . .but I could make an argument for any of the 3
Good topic, man

Nothing will challenge what Star Wars originally started out as. The hype, the merchandizing, the crazy scenes at the theaters.
But on pure cinema, today, I'd rank them...
Alien/Aliens
Star Wars / Empire
Terminator / T2
