How does anyone afford car insurance with a teenager? We are getting quotes with him added to our policy and it is mind blowing what they are saying it’s gonna cost. Basically around $8,000 a year for us three… can anyone provide insight if this is about the going rate?

Back when we added my daughter, our insurance doubled from what I was paying for my wife and myself.

In Louisiana, I tell people $400/mo is the baseline. High limits or a nice/sporty car will raise it $100-300/mo. A Beater with liability only will drop it about $100/mo.

Drivers training, good student, safe driver, whatever telematics discount your company uses …make sure the kids qualifies for all the discounts.

Expensive as hell. Currently with progressive after having USAA for a long while.

Make your son get a job for an insurance company. He’ll get a car and then become their problem.

It's a major kick in the nuts. 700 a month through USAA, 100/300/100.

Exactly! USAA was disappointing.

USAA is not the company I joined 30 years. They got greedy and totally trashed their risk model by adding enlisted and non-immediate family members. They are not even remotely competitive in FL any more.

I actually worked there when it went into effect. Anyone with three brain cells to rub together (or observed what kind of decisions junior enlisted make) could have seen this coming.

Everyone's insurance for anything, needs to be shopped every year. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll switch that particular year, but chances are good that people will switch.

USAA isa good option for homeowners but yeah their car insurance is always sky high down here. Have been through 2 teenage drivers so far and about to go through our 3rd. Progressive has always bad best price in previous 2 runs.
