I didn't think I'd live long enough to see it. I definitely won't live long enough to see the loop.

BATON ROUGE — The Washington Street exit on I-10 was permanently closed Wednesday night.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development exit was shuttered at 8 p.m.

DOTD said closing the exit should reduce the risk of crashes for drivers trying to merge across traffic after coming from the Mississippi River Bridge.

quote:

Crews worked Wednesday night, Feb. 18, to install concrete barriers, remove signs, and restripe lanes to create a safer merge from the Mississippi River Bridge into eastbound traffic. This work will continue through Sunday.

There will be nightly lane closures on the interstate near the Washington Street exit until Sunday as crews remove signage and install concrete barriers.

quote:

The ramp will be fully removed as part of the ongoing I-10 widening project.

Only for the 3 people who have used that exit in the past 20 years.

It’s been amazing to watch over the last several years how many people still cut over 2 lanes of traffic to take that exit despite there being a brand new exit that they can use.

Exactly!

The real question is why are they keeping it as part project. Why not eliminate it all together since the area is already served with the "new" Nicholson and Terrace Street exits.

How much money could we save in construction cost for the new ramp and two traffic circles.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - East Washington Street in Baton Rouge has been changed to Lorri Burgess Avenue in honor of the city-parish’s first African American mayor pro tem.

Dozens of folks gathered at the Leo Butler Community Center for the unveiling of the new name and a celebration of her life and accomplishments.

Burgess served on the East Baton Rouge Metro Council for 12 years. She was also the director of the Sickle Cell Foundation.

Many people signed a petition to remove the former sign and replace it with the name, Lorri Burgess.

The issue of I-10 going to one lanes still exists, you just now have an extra 100' to merge.

Seriously though. I’ve been waiting for Gravy to chime in on this being racist.

You mean the ones who cut across two lanes of traffic to use that exit and probably don't have insurance on their vehicles?

Side bar - What is the plan for Dalrymple? Will that exit start further up the road elevated?

No more traffic problems. Only sad thing is old administration didn’t get to make any money off of it some how.
