- The post highlights MIT research on 40 Hz gamma entrainment using sound (and light) to reduce Alzheimer's amyloid plaques by up to 50% in mouse models via enhanced glymphatic clearance, as detailed in a 2024 Nature study by Tsai et al., though human trials show cognitive benefits mainly in late-onset cases.
- Accompanying image depicts fluorescently stained mouse brain tissue revealing amyloid-beta plaques (purple) and reduced burden post-stimulation, illustrating the non-invasive method's impact on brain waste removal without drugs or surgery.
- While promising for slowing decline in small human extension studies (e.g., 19-47% tau reduction in three participants), limitations include small sample sizes, variable efficacy by disease onset, and need for larger randomized trials, as noted in MIT's 2025 update.

Alz took my Paw Paw and is currently wreaking havoc on my Granny.

Truly the worst disease other than maybe ALS, and far too common.

In 20 years we’ll have beaten this I think, for the most part. Science is progressing quickly last few years. Sad to realize all the people suffering from it now that won’t be around for that.

There must not be enough money in treating Alzheimer's anymore, so release the cure.

It is a horrible disease, so I hope this has a future. Even if slowed the advancement by 50%, that would be amazing.

I have "Alzheimers cure" fatigue.

Glad people a lot smarter than I are working on the problem, but I'll need to see concrete evidence before getting excited.

Pretty incredible. But, question: how do researchers know a mouse has Alzheimers?

Does this actually result in improved symptoms?

They breed the mice genetically so they're predisposed to it.

It’s about the plaque and they can (I believe) cause mice to have similar plaque then eradicate a lot of it.

Community Note:

The 50% Alzheimer's plaque reduction refers to a 2016 study using 40 Hz light flickering in mice, not sound waves alone or humans; recent multisensory studies do not report 50% plaque clearance. LINK LINK LINK
