I almost didn't watch this movie. I'm a Neil Diamond fan and thought the film looked like a silly punch at him. Turns out that it was very entertaining with some broad but enjoyable characters and very good music.
I liked it so much that we watched the original Song Sung Blue documentary on the couple, which is free on YouTube. Turns out that the real guy put on a hell of a Neil Diamond tribute show and was a local celebrity (along with his wife).

good film, kinda depressing and I thought Kate Hudson was excellent in this; she frankly surprised me at how good her performance was, not to take anything away from Hugh Jackman

From the movies I've watched she had the most memorable performance. She's nominated, right?

I didn't know this, but my wife pointed out that she has a studio album released.

Here is the documentary. I haven't seen the movie so I don't know if it is a good idea to watch before the movie. Perhaps you can add your perspective.

i loved the movie, the performances by all the actors, including the children, and all the singing. I saw the documentary prior so kind of knew what to expect. Their story really got to me emotionally in the movie.

Real tear jerker. Great performances from the whole cast

Was with, engaged and had a son will Matt Bellamy back in the early 2010's when Muse was continuing to make good music.

Not a Neil Diamond fan, but the movie was decent enough, and I thought Kate Hudson was really good in this.

Damn, hadn't seen that. The rasp was great and she can really sing. frick, did she hit the lottery on talent.

Hudson also nailed the Wisconsin accent (as someone who grew up there), without going over the top. She sounded like my mom and all my aunts while growing up in the 80’s and 90’s.

There was a point in 1971 when Diamond was the #4 top selling artist, behind The Beatles, Elvis, and Simon & Garfunkel.

Watched this over the weekend. did not realize it was based on a true story.
What shitty lick for the wife. I think I would move after that second time.
Rewatched The Jazz Singer afterwards. Both could have used more actual music.
The Jazz Singer had Lucille Ball's daughter and Lawrence Olivier. And of course Neil Diamond himself.
