La Pagua is my favorite. The best way to explain it is ICE would probably visit there. One of the few where I actually see Mexicans eating there.

Oh boy, this will be fun. If anyone has an opinion about Mexican food, it’s Lafayette. For the longest time, Mexican was the only style of restaurant that survived in Lafayette. I grew up there and have my opinions from 20 years ago, but I’d like to see where this goes.

5 posts and no La Fonda?
May not be best food, but it's an institution!

We tried Cactus on Hwy 90 and Verot School Rd a couple weeks ago. The birria tacos were fantastic. However, we were the only patrons at 1pm on a Sunday and the overpowering scent of Fabuloso was hard to ignore. My wife enjoyed her fajitas. We're willing to go again.

They're all the same bruh. The beans, the rice the tortillas. Only thing different is the atmosphere. All the meats are shite and the guac is always good. But man i love me some Mexican food!

I never see anyone there. I miss Evangeline steakhouse.

It's technically in Carencro, but Luna de Noche is pretty good.

If you grew up here and are over 55 now, there was only one place to go for an adult Mexican dinner with friends and no kids on a Friday night. For years and and least until the original owners sold it, it was the only restaurant where most of the waiters memorized your order and didn’t have to write it down and they always got it right and if you went fairly regularly you could have a house account. Best people watching place in town and reasonably priced. Loud and boisterous and hot ladies dressed to kill talking loud after the signature drinks. The glory days of Lafayette. A lot like Houston in the oilfield glory days.

La Fonda gets a lot of hate but it's consistent. Still make the best original nachos
and the super nacho
old style cheese enchiladas they've been serving forever

That and Guidry’s Reef.
The atmosphere in both of those places may have been for nursing home folks, but the food was spot on.

La Carreta down town.. Vallarta Mexican Grill is also good. Tried Sombreros Friday and didn't care for it. Not a fan of La Fonda, some can't live without it.
EDIT: Forgot Taqueria el Mexicano on Mimosa Place. Very little English spoken there.
