quote:

Like the original, The Rockford Files will center on the recently paroled (for a crime he didn’t actually commit) private investigator Jim Rockford who “uses his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles,” per the show’s logline. “It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.”
quote:

Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy, NBC’s The Village) is writing The Rockford Files and will executive produce with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman. Chris Leanza is co-EP, and Boreanaz is a producer.

I'm a fan of Boreanaz, but the casting of Angel and Rocky will decide my allegiance.

I grew up watching the Rockford files and filling James Garner's shoes is a tall task to the older gang.

One of the things that made Rockford such a great series was that James Garner could really pull off getting swindled and getting his arse kicked on just about every episode. Even though he was the main star (and a big star of that), Garner was still able to play the “victim” on almost every show.

I like David Boreanaz, however, I don’t know if he’ll be able to pull that off. And unless Jim Rockford is getting his arse kicked and getting screwed out of money by his supposed clients, I don’t know if the series works.

David Boreanaz
He just doesnt appeal to me the way JG did.

James Garner > David Boreanaz

It may be a good show, but not a good Rockford Files. Remake & reboot is mostly what Hollywood is about now

Garner always played fast thinking con men with a heart, starting with “Maverick”. Boreanaz has never done anything like that.

Good luck

I would suggest Seeley Booth had some of those traits

It's been 20 years since Angel. Guy's been doing pretty steady work, too.

Good for him. David is actually about 10 yrs older than James Garner was when he started the series in the 70's.

Seems like a pretty good cast, imo.

DB is 56. Garner was 47 starting Rockford and could pass for early 40s. That's the right age for a PI. Not too young and naive, but not too old and burnt out either.

the most interesting thing will be how woke they make it

There was talk of this reboot with Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost) a few years ago and I thought he would've been really good in the role.

James Garner > David Boreanaz
No one is saying that Boreanaz is even close to James Garner in talent and star power. No one is saying that this has a chance of being as good as the original Rockford. It's another remake. Hopefully a good one. Sometimes with remakes you get an Ocean's Eleven or The Fly or The Thing. Sometimes you get Running Man or Burton's Planet of the Apes. At worst you'll get new audiences streaming Garner's Rockford to see what all the fuss is about.

All I want:
• Jim gets punched.
• Jim gets abducted by hoods or gets his crib tossed.
• Angel makes things worse.
• Rocky is disappointed in Jim.

That's it.

Garner was a huge civil rights activist and would today be branded as a woke liberal.

With a series set in southern California and a character named Angel Martin, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw someone like this getting Jim into trouble:

As for the rest of the woke casting. Yeah, I want Gandy back, calling Jim "Rockfish". Cleavon Little as Jim's successful P.I. buddy was good. And that in show pilot they did with Isaac Hayes and Louis Gossett Jr.

Agree. Loved the show. I really liked Boreanaz in Seal Team, but he has big shoes to fill.
