New offerings will be hitting the retail shops this and next week.

I am always a little skeptical of the 'New and Improved" moniker that companies put out.

The new TaylorMade TP 5 series is due out tomorrow(12th) and I plan to try it vs the 2025 model on Tuesday. It's been mentioned on here that they have improved the paint job. I am not overly hard on balls with my wedges so I may not see that difference.

I know that Callaway and Bridgestone are doing updates along with Titleist AVX and ProV1's if someone wants to test them.

Maxfli has a new low spin version being tested on Tour right now, I am not sure of a release date yet.

For a benchmark, I am currently playing the 2005 TP5 mostly and the Tour Response balls on cold days. I am using the new TM Qi4D driver as well.

We look forward to your replies on any new ball that you try going forward.

On a scale of 1-10, how important is the ball you play?

I am getting more and more skeptical. I truly believe it only benefits the golfer at the higher level … Spin.
Is it the ball? the club? the player? Could a low single digit hdcp player go low with a TopFlite?
It’s a fun exercise, and I love the reviews in GOLF Magazine and MyGolfSpy.
I’m a data junkie and I love golf reviews. It’s fun and that’s it.

I have shot in the upper 70’s with TopFlite, TaylorMade, Maxfli, Titleist, Bridgestone and Vice. I’m only a 9-10 hdcp with a scoring average of 81.3 and I do not have the swing that creates consistent ball spin. I am playing the Maxfli Tour X and I love them.
Best balance of performance and value on the market.

Million dollar question.

One of the guys who
I play with weekly is a good player and he plays Pinnacle balls in the value pack. He is cheap lol.

Sometimes he complains about his chips rolling out too far, but other than that he is fine with them.

For me, it's about feel.

I stopped playing ProV1's and some X models because they feel harsh to me.

I guess the other factor is confidence in a particular ball.

One of the best golfers I know is scratch and could pickup a range ball and shoot around par. He will show up with noodles, pinnacles, etc just to rub it in

I play with another guy who is single digit and won’t play anything besides a pro V. So it’s really player dependent.

Exactly golf balls are overrated. My low round is 63, shot it twice. One time with a noodle, the other time with a precept!

Pro-V1 or pro-v1x depending on course conditions and needs.

I’ve tried switching, but gave up. Just gonna play the best ball out there and be done with it.

I found a Maxfli Tour not long ago and decided to give it a try. Really good ball flight with all clubs. I’m 68 with a 5 handicap, minimal club head speed, not much spin action. Usually play Pro V1. I’ll buy another sleeve of the Maxfli.

I’ve heard that the new Callaway Tour ball is supposedly 5yds longer than last year, any validity to this?

Most players don't want to hear this, but I think it's true. I think a small percentage of players have the ballstriking skill for the ball to make a huge difference.

The ball is the one thing you use on every shot. To think the ball you use doesn’t matter is silly. Does it matter to a terrible golfer? No. If you suck and can’t hit consistent golf shots play used balls. If you’re serious about playing golf finding ball that suits you is probably the first thing you should do.

So how many strokes are you gaining playing a ProV1 over a Pinnacle?
I would argue that not just a serious golfer, but a low handicap golfer is the only one that really benefits. The ball doesn’t matter to a 25 hdcp player.

Not sure on the number, but I use spin in my short game. If I had to play a non-urethane ball, I would have to totally change how I play around the green.

Do you realize how much a pinnacle would spin for me and any decent golfer that swings the club with some speed? Or how much distance they would lose with over compressing balls? A bunch. Most fitters will tell you the ball is the most importsnt thing to use. More so than getting fit for any club. With that being said you’re right, a 25 handicapper shouldn’t care about what ball they use. The clubs also don’t matter.

I'm curious about this statement.

Most Pinnacles are at least 100 compression which is the top of the chart. I agree a harder ball sometimes spins better. A lot of that is player swing driven like a digger vs. a sweeper.

We used Pinnacles when I use to do ReMax long drive events.

I’m not a pinnacle expert but i believe there are different pinnacles like everything else. The only pinnacle I’m aware of is the pinnacle soft which is a soft compression ball. Most of these cheaper trash balls are soft compression or at least the ones i find and see on the course.

I learned something from you.

I never knew Pinnacle made a soft ball. Looks to be in the 60 compression rating.
