Will New Orleans ever put a stop to the stupid homesteaders at Mardi Gras?

It gets more ridiculous each year. A tent city protected by an ever expanding wall of ladders that could keep the Mongols out. Why can’t people just be normal and walk up and watch a parade with their family and turn around and go home? And, if you really want to set up a full fledged tailgate, then why be so territorial when you’re not even supposed to be set up there anyways?
The aggression from these people is strange as frick, and it’s not just the tent city, it’s a general vibe around the parades that used to not be there. You can get yelled at just for standing in one spot to check your phone if it’s too close to a row of chairs. Lady, I’m not trying to encroach on “your spot” on a public sidewalk, I’m trying to find my kid a spot to maybe catch a glimpse of the parade.

Oh, so you just wanna walk up at a moment’s notice and “have a spot” for your kid to catch a bead. Seems lazy.

Just because you were too lazy to get there earlier does not make my setup a bad thing.
Take some initiative and stake your claim like a man, and quit crying

I hate seeing those empty chairs and tarps without people. That’s why I like sidewalk side more. It breaths a bit better (still wish it had less chairs though)

Quit being a bitch and get a spot like everyone else if you want to be up front.

Yes, a parade is designed to be something you just walk up to and catch beads.

I was there years ago and had one of those pieces of shite kick me from his chair. No attempt to say I was blocking his view from the sidewalk. No excuse me. Some people are just dumb and rude.

You people are legitimately retarded. “Having a spot” should mean a place where you and your family are standing. Not “I’m going to get here a day early and block up 5x the space than we actually need to set up a second living room”

In need of a ladder. St Chalres is a great place to pick one up. They are considered trash and will be picked up by the city

Says the lazy gump that expects to be abele to just waltz up to popular things and be right up front.
Fun fact, they've tried to mitigate it as much as they can, and people will still put however much effort is required to get space. Either play the game, or stfu

I don't know the protocols any more, but my uncle and his friend used to set up a spot downtown and sleep there for a week. I think they had to take the scaffolding down every day, but they could play homeless bums on the sidewalk.
The balls on those guys to spend the night in downtown New Orleans just in sleeping bags. I think I'll send my uncle a text thanking him again for that.

When did I say I expected to be right up front?
It’s not insane to expect people to not block up the entire parade route with tents and ladders and chained together chairs that no one is sitting in.
But you’re retarded so you think that means I expect to be right up front.

You wouldn't care about any of this if you were content being behind people.

This is so far from truth.

Sit in the back and shut up then

They used to keep the street car tracks clear and street cars running when parades weren't going, and only allow people to set up in the neutral ground a couple of hours before parade time.
I wish they would go back to doing that.
