His MBB decision will make or break him. Football was easy, Hire the most popular candidate and give him unlimited NIL funds...... 99% of the Rant-tards on this board could have made that hire. Rubber meets the road on him firing Mid Major Mcmahon and his replacement. We about to see what VERGE is all about. Pass me my popcorn.

Verge earned a lifetime contract with that football hire. He already said he's not firing McMahon until season is over. Be patient

MBB will not make or break him. Football is king. Baseball is the crown prince. MBB is the baron.

Men’s basketball like it or not is the second highest revenue sport. As bad as they are they still bring in money. If MBB is successful that’s even better. Wait till the seasons over and get the man needed to revive the program.

Josh Schertz at St. Louis is the guy I would go after. His teams put up big offensive numbers.

What an insane thing to say when the New York Giants wanted the same guy as you.

Yep. Wade was fired after the regular season. I started specifying the regular season.

Verge's statements below:

https://www.nola.com/sports/lsu/lsu-basketball-matt-mcmahon-job-verge-ausberry-sec/article_e8a5ec8b-3ab3-4136-961e-bc864c0d9d57.html#:~:text=%E2%80%9COne%20thing%20we%20want%20to,longer%20is%20the%20growing%20question.

Ausberry said, “there will be no midseason change” with men’s basketball.

https://www.on3.com/college/lsu-tigers/news/verge-ausberry-if-matt-mcmahon-doesnt-take-lsu-to-ncaa-tournament-well-have-to-reevaluate/
quote:

“If he doesn’t make it (the NCAA Tournament),” Ausberry told Tiger Rag’s Glenn Guilbeau on Tuesday “We’ll have to reevaluate.”

“We’ve already had some discussions about what the expectations are,” Ausberry said. “One thing we want to do is make sure we’re in the NCAA Tournament."

“We made that very clear to Matt at the beginning of the year – that’s where we need to be. … If something changes, and it it looks better, if the team gives us some hope somewhere, we can look at it,” Ausberry said. “But we’d like to be as close to the NCAA Tournament as possible this year.”

Verge's statements, when put together, made it pretty clear that MM had to make the tournament or he would likely be fired. I think MM is 2-5 since those statements were made. There are some things he said in mid January that sound a little like MM has a sliver of a chance, even if he does not make the tournament, but those have all but evaporated.

Verge will be influenced by the big donors in MBB, and I believe, despite the fact that they tend to like McMahon quite a bit as a person, they have lost patience.

NO IT WON’T!

If football wins, he’ll be fine.
That’s how it works.

Lol oh yeah? LSU has been an C-grade Bball program for the last 20 years and you think the hire will make or break Verge? Football & Baseball are the only 2 programs that would make or break any LSU sitting AD

Lane said he has a clause in his contract that directly keeps him linked to Verge.

I thought you found out when he hired Lane away from Ole Miss and revamped the entire football program and school, but I guess that's not enough for you. You guys act like women; "love me today and hate me tomorrow", it's never unconditionally.
