The Departed, The Town and Mystic River are all classics and great movies but is Gone Baby Gone the best in the category?

City on a Hill was pretty good. Three seasons on Showtime.

Of these, Mystic River is the weakest of the 4.

I'd go:

GBG
Departed
Town

Mystic River

GBG stuck with me for days. The ambiguity of it all, the difficulty of the subject matter. It genuinely haunted me.

I’m with you on gone baby gone over mystic river. It’s good but I didn’t get the hype for it. I think Sean Penn won the Oscar for it, and his performance in 21 grams that year was much better. He was over the top in mystic river.

I started watching it today. So is the entire thing gonna be about race relations and the police? Because while it might be great, I'm pretty tired of being preached to by my entertainment. Downvote away, but it's a genuine question.

That was not my take-away at all. Sure, there is racial stuff involved. If you know the history of Boston, that stuff is authentic.

I viewed it as pure entertainment. Kevin Bacon was over the top psycho. Aldis Hodge reluctantly accepted him as a partner in putting criminals in jail, regardless of his methods.

Stick with it for a while. I think you'll like it if you keep an open mind.

I walked away thinking Bacon's character was a total POS, but I enjoyed his performance.

If you like Aldis Hodge, check out the series called "Cross" where he plays detective Alex Cross.

Season 2 starts next week on Prime.

I liked City in the Hill. Also loving Hodge as Cross.

He plays him a little tougher than I read him, but I think he’s a great choice for the role.

Another good one from Showtime is "Brotherhood". It is set in Providence, RI, but is based on the Boston Bulger brothers (Whitey and William).

William was a Massachusetts politician, and Whitey was a member of the Winter Hill Gang.

Boston is one of those cities that I dont ever want to go to because there's no way it will measure up in real life to how cool it is in my mind. it's probably just a bunch of snow liberals.

I've been there multiple times. It is really cool if you are able to take a day or two to just walk around the Commons area and see the sights. If you have a car, take a side trips to Plymouth and / or Salem and / or Lexington / Concord and / or Maine.

My wife attended a 3-day conference there once. I walked all over the place. Fenway Park, the Harvard and MIT campuses, the Old North church, the historic district, the Cheers bar, etc. Took a tour of the Sam Adams brewery. Took a boat ride around the harbor.

Note: Plymouth Rock is really underwhelming, but there are some cemeteries there with headstones that are 500 years old.

If you like seafood, it is a great place to visit.
