Opening ceremony Paris vs Italy

I don't know what's more stupid... What we saw in Paris or this two cities = two parallel opening ceremonies garbage. Both having a Stargate structure so TV can flip back and forth. How about delaying the start on the first Saturday so everyone can go to one place...or better yet, just put all the events in/near Cortina.
At least there's not a degenerate "Last Supper" skit...yet.

I think its been perfectly fine. Refreshing actually. And not a single woke second thus far.

This is infinitely better than the visual vomit France put on.

IDK, I'm kind of liking this performance they're doing after the athletes have all come out. Some sort of decades theme going on here. In the 80's now.

The split-location setup for the 2026 Winter Olympics is definitely a logistical headache for viewers. The main hub is the San Siro Stadium in Milan, but they are running simultaneous ceremonies in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Predazzo, and Livigno. The "Stargate" structure you mentioned is actually the new dual-cauldron design inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s geometric knots. It expands and contracts using 244 pivot points, which is why it has that sci-fi look. It is the first time in history they are lighting two separate cauldrons at the same time in two different cities.

Man, Bocelli is devine. What a voice.

My favorite part so far was seeing famous Italian singer Mariah Carey or seeing famous Italian Charlize Theron speaking.
Honestly though, I do like the weirdness and over the top stuff the opening ceremonies normally include.
But we haven’t seen anything yet because I’m sure LA will be crazy. And I’m sure every “celebrity” will try to be seen or participate in 2 years.

Paris was like that too, hardly any French people in the opening ceremony. It’s interesting how other countries have zero popular culture. The US truly dominates the world.
They did a lot of opera stuff which is one of Italy’s biggest cultural contributions. I figured they’d have Bocelli sing Nessun dorma because Pavarotti “performed” it at the 2006 Turin opening ceremony.

quote:Crazy? You think? It's in the middle of the 2028 presidential election season and Trump will no doubt take over everything the Gov/Mayor would usually do. (Just look what happened with the World Cup draw.) So you have that in the middle of the communists out there. It would be fascinating to see how the Gen Z athletes behave. I would not be surprised if American medalists in T&F/basketball make Mexico City look like child's play.

I had to leave right when the parade of athletes finished up. I'm looking forward to watching the back half on tonight's rebroadcast.

OutFreakingStanding. Absolutely loved the intimate feel of everything after the parade of athletes. Also the mix of bringing in a few foreigners but leaving the spectacle to their opera superstars. This felt like how I remember Lillehammer and Albertville.
