I know us fans say this every year, but Beth needs to make it to Oklahoma City

BATON ROUGE, La. – No. 16/13 LSU opens the 2026 season with the Tiger Classic on Feb. 5-8 at Tiger Park.

The Tigers’ season opener will be against NC State at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 5, before playing a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 6, versus Nevada (3 p.m. CT) and NC State (5:30 p.m. CT). LSU will take on Nevada for the second time at 5:30 p.m. CT on Feb. 7, and concludes the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 8, against Illinois (12:30 p.m. CT) and Lamar (3 p.m. CT).

Lyn Rollins and Yvette Girouard will call each LSU game on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, while Patrick Wright will join Girouard for Friday’s doubleheader. All LSU games will be on SEC Network +, and non-LSU contests will be streamed on ESPN+.

LSU is 25-4 in home openers since 1997 and has a 14-4 record against the 2026 Tiger Classic tournament field. The Tigers are 6-1 against NC State, 5-3 versus Illinois, 2-0 versus Lamar, and 1-0 against Nevada.

LSU is picked to finish seventh in the 2026 SEC Preseason Coaches Poll, with catcher Maci Bergeron and utility player Tori Edwards earning Preseason All-SEC honors after both were named 2025 NFCA All-Americans.

LSU returns 12 players from the 2025 roster, including seven starters, and welcomes 11 newcomers, including five transfers in pitcher Cece Cellura (San Diego State), infielder Kylee Edwards (Mississippi State), infielder Ally Hutchins (Kentucky), utility player Char Lorenz (Louisville) and pitcher Paytn Monticelli (Oklahoma/Wisconsin).

She will probably end up 13-11 or 12-12 in the SEC again

3 of LSU's first 4 sec opponents won't be easy
they open @ Tenn against one of best pitchers in the country so the margin of error will be slim
they have home series against Aggies and OU which will be tough as well

the sec schedule does ease up later on

Softball reminds me of Men’s basketball. Beat up on everyone before conference play and then fall to the middle or bottom of the SEC.

The softball team, however, is always in post-season tournament play. But we generally lose to a lower seeded team (usually from Louisiana) playing at a home regional in Baton Rouge.

Softball at least beats up on a lot of top programs in the OOC schedule. McMahon dunks on the sisters of the poor, loses his one major P4 game by 30, then we all act stunned when we are back in 15th place.

I’d like to think Heavener will be one of the best pitchers in the country, give the team a chance in every game.

Beth is protected by the fact the we just spent a ton of money on football and we need to spend a bunch of money on Mens Bball. I don't know that making a change in softball will be in the cards this year unless the bottom falls out. If she is competetivelike she has been (.500 in SEC) then she will be retained.

No they are football at the taiil end of Miles. They beat the teams they are supposed to beat but lose to all the good teams but pull out maybe 1 series they shouldn't.

I’m usually pretty excited for the start of softball season. Starting the week before baseball helps. After the way they lost out last year, I’m finding it difficult to get too excited. I’ll watch, but at this point I have my doubts that it will be any different.

The first question that has to be asked and answered is what's our NIL budget given to the program compared to the top 10 in the country each year now.

Torina says she’s the most experienced pitcher on the roster . Her stats were pretty good at SDSU , I’d imagine the SEC is a step up from the Mountain West.

Exactly. I have them going 11 - 13 in the SEC at best.

That is not the real issue though. It depends on how they do in the postseason. Not advancing to the super's will end the Torina era, IMO.

The problem is - once again - we don't have the homerun power that other teams have. Here's hoping Edwards doesn't have a sophomore slump.
