EU and other western countries along with Brazil and others are planning to fine the social media companies like Alphabet, X, Meta, etc. in their respective countries unless they implement censorship policies as prescribed. The goal is to get the Democrat candidate in the White House. They have had enough of MAGA and cannot risk the furtherance of MAGA through JD Vance or Marco Rubio.
The social media censorship push has already started in Spain and France against X. It’s going to get worse.
Mike talks here about it in more detail and how our own government officials are playing along with the leaders in the EU pushing this censorship initiative.

I have a feeling I know what Musk will tell them.
Anyone have a guess.?
I say it will be two words. Ond starts with an F the other starts with an O.

I really hope Elon does tell these foreign countries to f' off. He'll lose a lot of money but X will grow more popular in the US and other less censorship countries.

We can’t control EU nations beyond our willingness to remain in alliances with them and setting trade policy according to their actions.
We can expect that in the United States that under a Trump administration that any group forcing censorship should face major consequences for that action.

Who in our government?

He doesn't mention people. He mentions agencies.
He primarily refers to officials within the U.S. State Department as playing along with European Commission (EC) social media censorship initiatives. He highlights a lack of pushback or coordinated response from the department's various bureaus and desks within the State Department, including:
The Europe desk
Public Diplomacy
Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL)
Regional offices for areas like Western Hemisphere, Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa
U.S. ambassadors to the EU and individual member states (e.g., France, Spain, Poland, Germany, and the UK)
He argues that this inaction—such as the State Department's failure to issue a public statement in response to recent French raids on X's Paris office or Spain's threats to arrest Elon Musk—amounts to complicity, allowing the EC's censorship framework (like the Digital Services Act) to encroach on American platforms without resistance. He contrasts this with the coordinated promotion of similar censorship policies by State Department officials under the previous administration, but focuses his criticism on the current lack of a counter-strategy.

So they want the entire social media sphere to look like Reddit. Cool. Cool.
