I remember this being a thing back in the day, and it’s no question: Braveheart is a great film, whilst Gladiator is a good movie.
Braveheart wins categorically.
ETA, I also remember the movement of Americans hating the English after Braveheart was released lol

Excellent point. It was a renewal

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Braveheart, i need to rewatch to give an accurate assessment. I rewatched Gladiator last year before seeing the 2nd and actually had forgotten how great it is. It’s easily Ridley Scott’s peak. And that ending theme…my god

I love brave heart. But I think Gladiator goes harder.
But why do make your readers choose between each great film?

At least it’s not the lame Field of Dreams vs League of Their Own question.

Braveheart by a whisker..
Both historically bullshite but whatever, it's entertainment.

In my opinion they are both fantastic! However, Braveheart wins by a nose.

Just due to historical setting, I give Gladiator the nod by a hair.
I just love Ancient Rome over dark ages Scotland, that’s really only difference.
I think Braveheart probably had the bigger cultural impact? By a hair
There’s so many tropes I feel came from that movie.
Reluctant hero, spurred to act by the loss of a loved one. Gains followers, challenges and defeats the establishment, dies but the ultimate goal of freedom is accomplished.

I am a bigger fan of Gladiator

Someone was talking about the re edit of braveheart where they axe most of the love story and it saves 50 minutes.
I might like that version better than Gladiator.
But until then. Gladiator is the film.

You must be young given your take on Great Expectations.

Gladiator was a great film. It doesn’t hold a candle to Braveheart. Is there a single flaw to that movie?
