I bet Kiffin brings it up until admin recognizes it.

You're on a roll with the good ideas this morning, my man!
The NCAA recognizes it, that's the wild part.

I wish LSU had recognized the 1908 title a very long time ago. BUT since they didn’t I’m on the side of not outwardly doing it 118 years later.
It really offers nothing to LSU or its fans other than a talking point to other fanbases in arguing “we have 5 national championships!” So what.
We jab on Alabama for recognizing championships even for a 3-7 team named NCs by a Tuscaloosa Times fan poll. Exaggerated example, but goes to the point.
The nail in the coffin for me is Auburn unilaterally recognizing multiple national championships this past season and how pitiful it appeared. To me it was widely criticized and laughed at. It only made some of their fans poke their chests out, but I’d bet a lot were embarrassed. I don’t think it brought any positive attention to Auburn. It was an admission that they somehow needed to do it out of insecurity about their real status in the CFB pecking order and an effort to bump it. Colossal failure IMO.
This tweet sums it up for me. They proudly announce that they are unilaterally recognizing 4 new NCs with a photo including toilet paper with an Auburn logo on it. Toilet paper. WTF thought that was a good idea?! But it’s appropriate - that’s how their claims should be recognized - NCs only written on toilet paper.
There were several humorous X posts from Auburn and its fans that day. One that I can’t find is one of a cookie with the newly-recognized NC years written in orange, blue and white icing. A freaking cookie.
I’m fine with the 4 legitimately-recognized flags flying in Tiger Stadium.

The NCF recognizes LSU…. So this isn’t some kind of self appointed championship.
Silly that we don’t claim it.

Do you think we are Ole Miss?
Forget 1908...let's work on 2026.

None of those “championships” Auburn claimed are recognized by the NCAA.
The NCAA recognizes LSU as one of the champions of 1908 along with Penn. It’s no different than not recognizing 2003 because it was a “split” (chicken shite) champion.
Those men deserve to be honored just like any other championship team, and LSU would not look bad anywhere other than message boards and twitter.

I’m sorry, how exactly does Auburn claim 1958? What’s their logic here? LSU was 11-0

I get it, but why hasn’t LSU done it all these years? I don’t know. As I said it just doesn’t offer anything IMO to do it now. Wish it was on the board for LSU all these years, because it IS on the NCAA site.
I’m not completely against it if it could be done for instance at halftime of a non-conference game. In the stadium only, raise the flag. But I’m against making any big announcement with toilet paper and cookies, X posts and celebrations. Unfortunately it’s too late to invite any former players to stand at midfield, but maybe we could find some grandchildren.

I agree with this but if done with the ncaa in some fashion it could work

Too late. Bama already claimed it.

I get it. Definitely not trying to diminish the legitimacy of it, nor am I meaning to criticize you guys who are for recognizing. A part of me wishes we would. I think the Auburn thing sours me on it somewhat because I found it exceedingly cheesy. But maybe that’s just because of the way in which they did it and because I can’t stand Auburn.

I have said this in a number of these post. In the 70s and 80s LSU flew 2 flags in the Northeast corner the bottom flag said 1908 National Champions and the top Flag said 1958 National Champions.
These flags were in the old gold with purple writing. I remember them as clear as the day is long.

I didn’t know this. Why’d they take it down? Probably something stupid like taken down to clean and dummy forgot to put it back up.

Do 1908 and 1936. I am good with those two.
Nobody won a national championship before the BCS, it was a popularity contest with the media before then.
The NCAA didn’t award trophies for football

Auburn just claimed 100 so I think it’s fair to claim one the NCAA website recognizes

LSU was the first team outside of the north to win a national championship in 1908. A&M was the next one in 1919.

Damn Skippy I’ve got a jacket back in 2008 after the 3rd. I’ve sown a patch on it for 2019 & YES 1908!
THATS 5 Time National Champions

I’m 100% all for it too. I’d love to see a 1908 flag flying, and it’s a legit recognized National Championship already.
But we shouldn’t just do it any random season. It should get piggybacked alongside a new Natty when the plaques and flags go up.
I thought for certain it would FINALLY happen after 2019, but Scott blew that one.
