$200 Oil Change 08' Jetta

Benny's wanted to charge me $200 for an oil change in a 08' Jetta. At first they said it would be $54 and when I pulled into the bay another guy came over and told me that it had to be the "special" oil for European cars.
This was my older brothers car and I was doing it as a favor. Will change it tomorrow myself for less than $50 bucks.

I change my own oil. Not sure id ever trust one of those quick lube places.

It doesn't. It's just a pain in the arse canister style filter they don't want to work on. Plus a skid plate cover.
I wouldn't change it for $50 either.

It seems most oil change places will give you the most expensive oil by default and you will have to argue with them to get something else. Benny's is a terrible company though and you shouldn't go there for any reason.

Technically, they do take a "special" Euro spec oil. In reality, any oil that meets the Dexos standards exceeds that spec.

Do you need 0w20? They charge a lot in shops for that.

It calls for that in the manual, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been used for most of the previous oil changes. It has 150K miles.

Yeah with our climate you can use most thinner oils. I wouldn't run 20w50 but 5 or 10w20 would be fine.
