The visits didn't seem largely publicized during the BK era (aside from weird 360 degree videos). It is a breath of fresh air seeing the coaches on the recruiting trail looking at top talent in all corners of the country. There definitely seems to be benefits of doing it in today's social media culture but are there counter productive factors to it such as other programs using it to follow and offer X Y and Z or maybe players entertaining it just to boost their "brand"?

This ride has been fun and is just getting started but interested on some different takes here.

Also, frick OM

This staff has been relentless early on which goes against everything the Runts told us when Lane was hired. Now, it's just a few months in so we still smell like a new car. We'll see how things are going in year 2, 3, etc.

Ole Miss fans didn’t think he worked hard on the trail because they couldn’t land the big fish out of high school.

Seems they forgot the only time they were landing big fish was when High Freeze was setting them all up with cash, blow and hookers.

It was an Ole Miss problem, not a Kiffin problem.

No single person is bigger than LSU. Frick frank for the way he went out and how he tried to hold LSU hostage.

Just because it’s being publicized more doesn’t mean it wasn’t happening or not good.

Just want to make it clear that I think the engagement is good. But it not indicative of more work being done. As indifferent as Kelly was the assistants recruited their arse off.

That’s part of my original question. Just because it’s publicized, is it actually a net positive?

Kelly recruited the state well, especially after he got rid of Polian.

Of course

Any news is good news, any publicity is good publicity. Kiffin's high volume of social media posts are a great thing for LSU. Dominate the news cycle, flood the zone, force people to talk about or at least notice LSU. Where have we seen that before...Perception is everything and getting a chance to look successful leads people to want to come along for the ride.

It elevates the brand, which has huge intangible implications for things like future contracts, revenue, which leads to higher NIL and more success on the field.

Agreed on this point, the staff as a whole worked hard.

What’s clear to me is that Kiffin is intent on sending a message about where LSU is going and how relentless his staff will be. Not sure if we’ll always promote it so publicly, but clearly Kiffin wants to at this early stage of his tenure.

I think the benefit of showing the love outweighs the competition. Most of these kids are on everyone’s radar anyway.

When I first started following recruiting in 1984, I had to wait for the Sundy newspaper insert, "Parade Magazine", to list their yearly HS all-american team and what schools those players committed to. There definitely wasn't any public access to coaches visiting recruits back then.

After that, annual recruiting magazines (like Max Emfinger, Tom Lemming, Bluechips, Lindy's) provided player rankings, detailed scouting profiles, and school probabilities. No timely recruiting info. However, the local newspaper would print out Signing Day results the following day, if you didn't attend the Signing Day Bash.

In 2002, I found Rivals online. I would wait for national or local updates to hear about coaches visits to homes or schools. Same thing later, for Scout, ESPN, 247,and On3, along with message boards. In 2008, Twitter came along, and instant recruiting info (& mostly rumors or teases) did become more accessible.

Nowadays, it's almost archaic for a coach or player not to post daily events & interactions on X,IG, FB, or SnapChat, etc. It took roughly 40 years to go from the Dark Ages to Contemporary Enlightenment.

Kiffin and the staff have barn stormed Louisiana. No telling how many schools they hit in north Louisiana the other day.

Sure is awesome to see a coach busting his arse.
