Woodward’s revenue sport hires as AD lately have been awful

Just off the top of my head, McMahon has been a total disaster. I was willing to give him time to get this program running after the Wade firing, but it’s inevitable that he’s done at LSU.
BK was lazy and totally unmotivated to be the head coach here. He and his family hated living here and will likely never step foot in this state again. Woody never vetted his motivation or how long he wanted to coach before throwing piles of guaranteed money at him.
Jimbo Fisher flaming out was fun to watch from the outside, but basically another BK situation.
Woody loves LSU, but damn you can’t fail that bad with football and men’s basketball and live to tell about it.

Buzz Williams wasn’t great at A&M either. He was on his way to getting fired before a miraculous late season turnaround and run to the SECTCG in 2022. He ended up making the last 3 tournaments but never got them past the Rd of 32. Also his hiring of Pelini here was awful. He also was hellbent on hiring Kevin O’Sullivan.
Does he? Or does he just love himself? Too often in multiple sports we heard “Woody would never hire that guy, he doesn’t like him” even if said coach was a proven winner. At the end of the day your job as AD is to hire the best person for the job for the betterment of the athletic department, not the person who is most likely to kiss your arse.

Allowed the gameday experience to erode too

History won’t be kind to Woodward

Woodward must have had some grandiose feeling about himself because he got his start working with Saban. So therefore he thought he was a legend too.

As it shouldn’t. Let’s not forget he tried to hire the FLA baseball coach.

I don't fault BK or MM for signing the contracts because anyone dumb enough to allow them to sign these outrageous contracts is a massive idiot

Don't forget, Woody kicked the tires on Jimbo before hiring BK.

Woody is basically the Ryan Day of athletic directors. He was born on 3rd base and thought he hit a triple. Instead he was the last AD scared of the ncaa, he had us years behind in NIL because he was scared to push gray areas. He has our revenue sports sucking wind, paying out the arse for women’s basketball and didn’t want to hire JJ

He also hired jay Johnson and Kim mulkey. Why didn’t you include those

He also gets credit for hiring Jay Johnson (Goat), Hall of Famer Kim Mulkey and Jay Clark. All have national titles. But yeah, his 2 money sports hires were duds

Jay Johnson was option #2. SW really wanted Sullivan
Mulkey was an easy hire. She reached out and wanted to come back to Louisiana for family reasons

The assistant AD pushed Jay. Woodward was not going to hire him or look his direction. He was trying to get the home wrecker from Florida.

How does Woodward compare to alleva. I always thought alleva was by far the worst but he gave us Ed who gave us 2019 and gave us Will Wade. Woodward gave us Jay and mulkey but those don’t make much money

Alleva sucked and after the Duke lax bullshite should have never been considered for a major role again. However he gets more hate than fat Scott because he isn’t a one of us.
They are pretty equal in quality

Exactly. I hate alleva with a passion but I don’t think he should get more hate than fatboy Scott. To me they are equally bad

Wasn’t his FIL Mark Emmert the x President of NCAA? So he had some cover, FIL opened the doors for him and name connections.
He loved finger foods, the donor dinner circuit, glad handing, over paying for below average coaches and under performing! Jay was hired while he was here but wasn’t his “hire”….so who did he really bring over as a good coach?

Alleva at least made cleaning up the facilities a priority. The outside of Tiger Stadium was a total dump until he pushed for the new windows and all.
That’s his legacy here. New windows.
(And getting insanely lucky with Coach O/2019 which he didn’t even get to enjoy lol)

Damn, I didn't realize we killed him for it.
Did we shoot him from a cannon or something? That would be neat.
