I’m trying to refresh my memory here. Anyone remember? Like what teams have made swings and Kiffin decided to remain at ole Miss
Auburn is one I definitely remember. For some reason I thought A&M tried at one point too.
The whole thing I’m trying to prove is why LSU is such a superior job to any and that’s likely one of the only ones anyone would leave a good situation for.

I think this recruiting cycle gave you all the proof you needed.

Give Lane credit for being savvy in the college football world. He had a good thing going at Ole Miss top salary, boosters who were happy with the way the program was headed, successful recruiting classes, financial support and NIL money, good staff and assistant coaches, top salary, and free reign to run the program his way. He was never going to give all that up unless he saw an even greater opportunity. LSU gave him that and he had the confidence in his ability to make the decision that he could be more successful at LSU and believed LSU offered a better opportunity to succeed. I do not doubt that if an even much better opportunity presents itself he will evaluate carefully a make the best decision for his career. I hope LSU will always trump the other offers but the future is unknown. If by chance he is unsuccessful at LSU I would expect LSU to make the best decision for the future of it's program.

I think he saw that 3 of the past 4 coaches have won championships at LSU, and that is one of the goals he couldn't achieve at a place like Ole Miss.

That and the fact that Louisiana is a gold mine for talent and there’s way more money funneling into LSU than people realized before.
I’d compare them to Ohio State and the state of Ohio but with more talent.

I think Florida was the only serious contender.

I’m not talking just this cycle. I’m talking over the years. Didn’t Auburn want him bad?

LANE wanted the LSU job....and a few of his mentors solidified that idea.

Florida was out because their AD was a horses arse in his relations with Lane.
Alabama was out because of the way they handled the OC firing.
Mississippi was a placeholder because, well because they are entirely bumpkins.

LSU stole Kiffin?
Considering he left a team that had a legit shot to play for a national title right before the playoffs, yeah, I'd call that a pilfering.

There were reports that Miami was making a quiet play for him as well. Sounds absurd now but at the time Miami had just lost 2 of their last 3 games and looked like they might implode.
Fans were grumbling about Cristobal.
