Is the Drake Maye hot take scale starting to tip too far the other direction?

Yes he has struggled in this playoffs. But he is 23 and the defenses have been good , and his left tackle is non existent
Him almost winning MVP was the scale tipping too far one way based on who was was playing, but now I feel like it’s tipping way too far the other way

The Pats schedule is brutal next year and I think people are likely going to bury him if his play dips and the pats don’t win this Super Bowl

He used his legs very effectively at critical moments. Won the game for them.

If the running game is being super effective I could see that. But with normal weather they’ve been one of the more aggressive downfield passing offenses in the league and he’s been the most accurate downfield passer in the league. He’s gonna have more time in the pocket than he’s had the last few weeks.
Mack Hollins being back is a pretty big component of the offense too, both in his run blocking and his deep flag and in cut routes that Maye feasted on for a lot of the season. Gonna be a good game.

He's a second-year QB who struggled his rookie year and has had a very easy road to a Super Bowl appearance. I think some people are just a bit skeptical of him given his playoff performances, and unfortunately for him, he's going to play against the #1 scoring defense in the league in the Super Bowl two weeks from now.
I think he is a good NFL QB who has definitely proven himself this season. I also think some of the top five NFL QB talk is a bit premature.

Thins is the correct (non hot take)

People, myself included, are just extremely tired of glazing qbs before they prove themselves for more than just a year. I remember when CJ Stroud was heralded as a top 5 qb in the league after his first year. Or Jayden Daniels, or when Tua was in MVP discussions his 3rd year. Or how about when Hurts was considered a top QB. The point is, people need to stop crowning qbs before they are established for multiple years. Additionally stop giving qbs credit for winning with great teams and mediocre play. Nothing Maye did yesterday or this postseason was good enough to get to the superbowl without the insane run of bad qb play on the other side. Meanwhile Stafford threw for 275 3 td and no turnovers and lost.

Montana threw 3 INTs in the 1981 NFC Champ game vs. Dallas...the game that ignited his career and the 49ers dynasty.
Brady's stats in his three 2001 Post Season games that concluded with a HUGE upset over the Greatest Show on Turf in the Super Bowl:
572 yards; 1 TD; 1 INTs; less than 6 yards per pass attempt
Maye should be fine. Maybe he's a Nick Foles/Don Majkowski type one year wonder...or maybe he's a legit franchise QB fixing to take his place with Allen, Burrow, Mahomes, etc. as a Top 5-6 QB in the NFL.
The fact we're even hearing the "What's wrong with Drake Maye" stuff is the result of these "hot take" shows and sports media types constantly throwing stuff on their social apps for clicks.
Imagine QBs like Terry Bradshaw and Jim Kelly, Hall of Famers, having to navigate their early career struggles with Stephen A Smith types yelling all over TV and getting his booger-eating followers all stirred up.

He's played against some really good defenses

He isn’t great. The guy is a game manager.

Lead the league in YPA and EPA with relatively mid weapons. Far from a game manager.

Just the stupidity the OP is talking about. Maybe the guy isn't great and is going to just be a one-season wonder. But at the same time:
72.0% completion percentage, 31 TD passes vs 8 INTs, 8.9 yards/pass attempt, 113.5 passer rating
Those stats for this past regular season are the opposite of "game manager".

I do not disagree, but at the same time you have to take a step back and look at the top QBs in the league. Mahomes, Burrow, Allen & Lamar have been pretty established as the top QBs with many others putting Hebert in that number. But other than Mahomes, would any of these been in conversations as a top 5 QB 10 years ago? Then who are the active QBs filing in the top 10.
This league has a QB problem, and the fans and media are desperate to find some new people to say they are set in the top 5/10.

He is far from a game manager. He wants to push the ball downfield and did a very good job of it in the regular season
He just isn’t in the Allen, burrow, Mahomes Stafford tier yet, but once again he is 23. These top defenses are showing him things that’s clearly confusing him.
